How to switch phones with AT&T?

I have one of the older iPhones with service through AT&T. I saw Apple came out with a white iPhone that looks sharp so I am thinking of upgrading my iPhone. Can I purchase the phone through Apple's website or how would I have to do it to get the phone working on AT&T?

I haven't changed phones in many years, and the last time I did, my mother took care of it for me. :redface:

Not really. I just have always had to wait forever at my local store. I would rather be able to get the phone delivered so I wouldn't have to go to a store.

Doing all those transfers in store was one of the main reasons I didn't mind the 30 minute wait or so it took to do the upgrade. But I do know you'll like the iphone 4.

I heard some people had reception problems at first with the iPhone 4. Don't they usually come out with a newer model each summer or something? I might wait for the 'newest' model.

You can upgrade through the ATT website also. If you are eligible you may get a reduced price on the upgrade of the phone.

Yeah they did have problems with the antenna's in the iphone 4 at first but they got that worked out. I've had no problems at all with reception. If you decide to wait the iphone 5 comes out in September but that will be a first issue phone. So who knows if all the kinks will be worked out of it or not. But the 4 is fine now.

Take your old iphone and plug it in to your computer and sync it. Unplug it and plug in the new iphone. follow the onscreen instructions to activate and sync all your data. Done. The Iphone is one of the easiest phones to transfer your data between.

Hehe. I was waiting for someone to say something about that.

Technology and me are not getting along right now.

The camera is working for the time being. It comes and goes with the formatting problem. I am still looking to get a camera, but I hope mine will last until Christmas so I can get a new one then.

My computer email problem is fixed. Changing passwords and clearing my saved email list did the trick.

I just did the same. Went from a Iphone 3g to a white 4. Just ordered it through AT&T's website. Arrived on my doorstep in 2 business days. I upgraded the old one to the lastest software, backed it up/performed a sync , then plugged the new one in to do a restore. Once you do that you just call a 1-800 number to activate the new phone.

Supposedly a 4GS comes out this summer. There is a lot of difference speedwise between my 3G and the 4G. Not so much between the 3GS and the 4G. I had to get a new one b/c mine wasn't functioning properly. If you can wait, I'd wait for the 4GS to come out then get a Iphone 4 for a $100 discount when they drop the price.

I'd go there. We bought my wifes there on a whim one time and they did everything for us. I believe it was even a little cheaper (like $10 maybe.) And there was no massive line either, especially if you choose the right time to go. Say, 4:00 on a tuesday or something.

I read the same thing in an article. I was searching for iPhone 5, and they said that wouldn't be out until next year, but that a iphone 4GS or whatever will be out in Sept.

I was hoping so earlier in the year, but I know at their trade show, they didn't announce anything. I'd heard 2011 was a wash and they were focusing on 2012, but I hope I'm wrong.

I think I will go ahead and order the white one. Surely those won't go on sale in Sept. since the white version was just released.
