How ugly will it get in 2023?

We return, Dallas Turner and some young edge guys, Kool-Aid, Lawson at LB, Oatis at DT, plus have an incredible secondary recruiting class coming in with probably at least 1-2 guys who will start right away.

On offense Ty or Milroe should be ready. Latham and Booker are arguably our most talented OL guys and they're back. Plus our freshman WRs who seem really promising come back and Niblack who I think will be very good
Well all the players currently playing in our secondary were highly recruited guys and they got exposed on Saturday. Exposed due to scheme, execution, poor coaching, out coached by UT......some of those or all of those........
What many posters are saying is it doesn't appear our great, highly ranked during recruiting players are being improved with the current coaching staff.

How many more losses does Bama need before people are allowed to worry about the state of the program? Bama is literally 2 plays from being 4-3 this year. Same for last year. This isn’t like Ole Kiss where Bama has 5 turnovers and OM got some weird bounces. Bama had zero wins that year by fewer than 5 points. Only 2 were by single digits that year. This year? 2 out of 4 have been by fewer than 5 points.

These are year over year trends. Penalties. Defensive breakdowns. No offensive creativity. Recruits not being developed.

In past years there were a few outlier games that were close or even losses. This has become a trend.

I think that the worries are valid. But we all knew it had to end eventually. Saban is human.

Personally, I don't think you are quite there yet. But you are close. And then Alabama will just be Alabama again instead of the beast that has owned the sport for 15 years.

I think that we need to do a better job of accepting the transition into the future with grace. Maybe Saban deserves better from us? Because he kinda deserves the right to go out however he wishes, right? Even if it means some tough seasons at the end?

We had, arguably, the best team ever 2020, blew almost everyone out. How many NFL draft picks did we replace last year? 2021 should have been a total rebuild year for most programs, but we made the national title game, despite shortcomings with our coordinators. Without Bryce we don't even make the SECCG.

This year, some touted this team as the most talented under Saban. It may very well be....on paper. Its not translating to the field. There is an issue somewhere, whether it be too many selfish players (NIL started last year too), coordinators not getting guys prepared, or something else, I don't know.

Now, every dominant program eventually comes back to the pack, and we definitely have to an extent. Several teams around the league have also elevated themselves, Ole Miss, MSU, UT, UGA, UK...others have faded, Auburn, LSU. There are ebbs and flows to this sport, however, this year, Alabama is still one of the most talented teams and can beat anyone.....IF....IF....they can overcome their flaws.

No doubt. Just win.

There are worries, like any year. Maybe it wasn't like ole miss with turnovers. But maybe it was. 17 penalties, a muffled punt led to a big early UT lead. Couple that with poor play calling /clock management , critical PI penalty to end the game . We've had games like this most years. If it wasn't for a blocked FG against a mediocre tenn and a TD on the last play against Auburn, the 2009 team would have been 9-3 instead of national champs . Is coach declining? , seems that way, maybe it's just his assistants. but it I think he still has another title in him. Recruiting is still on point, Bama will probably sign the best class this year, again. No reason to believe they will drop off a cliff. Just enjoy the ride.

not arguing, just adding to. Repelling some of the negativity.

I think these are valid points. I have had a nagging feeling, since last year, that we were seeing the first signs of the impending decline. Many factors have been laid out that could support the position that it has started.

Many of us have been “Processed” and find it difficult to accept something as basic as “entropy”. Therefore, a segment of fans (me included!) will not accept less than playing to the standard. Seems like Saban’s “Process” has been developed as a fight/struggle against entropy.

The remaining two question are 1) does Saban have the energy/motivation to innovate in a way to continue the fight/struggle, and 2) when will Saban decide that the fight/struggle is not worth it?

Sorry for the early morning ramble! Roll Tide Roll

We made a lot of mistakes, but we also only forced 1 punt and got 1 turnover. Otherwise, I think they scored every time they had the ball. That's insane.

Can we not get through this season before we start writing off next season? I swear, after every loss it's the sky is falling on this board for a week.

It's like Bama fans have it stuck in their head that Bama goes undefeated every year but, it actually rarely happens. So what if a few of the wins have been close. I see the deficiencies in this team, I've whined about them in many threads but, I think it is crazy to talk like Saban is at the end of his run. What do I know though?

On second thought, so what if Saban ends up having a 3 or 4 loss year (or even 2). Has he not earn some slack over the last 15? Are we really going to be that type of fan base that starts circling the wagons after 1 season. They were in the championship game 9 months ago and still control their destiny this year. Even Auburn gives their coach 2 years (most of the time) before writing them off and those coaches never get close to the mountain of success Saban has brought to Bama.

Is Saban declining. No, or at the very least, no one here can answer that yet. He's lost at least 1 regular season game in 12 of his 16 seasons at Bama. At least wait until something of an outlier actually happens, like 2 or 3 regular season loss, before starting to cry doom and gloom.

The big eyerolls are due to:
1- your posting history here
2- every time Bama loses one game in the season, someone starts worrying about the future
3- we're literally in the middle of the season and you're posting about next year. We'll burn that bridge when we get to it, discussing / worrying about it now is pointless.

The very thing that has set CNS apart and made him the GOAT will also cause the fanbase to have a serious revolt if he lets the program slide into mediocrity. He'd be the victim of his own success.

I personally think he'll go to the lake before he let's that happen, but it is disturbing that we are struggling to win important games in the last couple of years.

It's not the one loss that's the issue, but it's the trend of close encounters with teams we ought to throttle that's the concern IMO.

He is the one who set the standard. Paying him $10 Mil. plus per year of public funds to retire gracefully is probably not in the cards. Some of us had thought that Sarkesian may be on the track to transition. I had thought that he brought BOB in to audition for the job. Obviously that is not going to work.

I recall Coach Stallings after winning the championship in 1992 lost to a very good Mississippi State team and was criticized by the then University President in the locker room. Two weeks later he retired giving the administration the middle finger salute.

Criticism of CNS is premature in my opinion but I also doubt that the transition can be a completely harmonious one. Recalling the Bobby Bowden saga at Florida State.

This eeyore has started 3 separate threads about this loss. I am mad about the loss too but 3 separate threads? Just give him an eeyore avatar or something.
