I'm not sure how many we've played. I know Colorado was one of them. We struggled in the first half of that game. That was during a 3 game stretch where Colt had the flu/sinus infection. During half time they'd give him Grape pedialyte and PB&J sandwiches and then he'd light it up in the second half.

We wondered why they wouldn't just give him that concoction BEFORE the games, then. :)

It's misleading to call CNS' defense a 3-4, since we're in that formation only a minority of the time. It's really a hybrid, but I guess you could say it's a 3-4 base. It's a 3-4 in the philosophy of how the DTs and the NG are used and that's about it. Saban and Smart know how Muschamp think and vice versa, so it should be quite a chess match...

I don't think my reference to Mack's success against NC-winning coaches is misleading. For the record, he beat Carroll, Stoops, and Tressel after they had won NC's. But I'm sure Saban was Saban before he won a NC; he didn't get smart suddenly, once he beat Oklahoma.

Anyway, I'm not trying to compare Mack Brown and Nick Saban. And I said Saban's a great coach. The fact that Mack beat Nick in a bowl game seven years ago doesn't mean Mack's the better coach or that he has Nick's number. I'm just trying to point out that Mack may be a little smarter than a lot of people recognize.

I think that will be the interesting match-up. Do you think Applewhite gives them any additional insight or has our offense changed enough that anything he knows is dated?

Nah, not really. There's nothing left of MA's offensive thinking in the offense. What we have is McElwain, as filtered through CNS (and, of course, the rest of the staff). There's a lot more commonality in the defenses, at least in basic thinking, hand and foot techniques, etc...

I agree...

I don't think the OP is knocking that you get your sacks from different areas. I think his point is that when the DLine is the one sacking us... it gives us more fits. When the sacks come from elsewhere, we tend to handle it much better.

In a nutshell, he's saying that the same things that worked for Nebraska won't necessarily work for you. He is NOT saying that you won't get decent pressure. But that the type of pressure you will give us we handle better. It would be fool's gold for you to look at the Nebraska tape and lick your chops. You cannot replicate Suh.

True enough, but then Nebraska's defense isn't our defense either. Nebraska's defense is good but I don't believe you'd find many people who believe it's as good as Bama's. I have no doubt that our defense will be the toughest by far that you guys will have faced this season. I'm looking forward to the game, is it Jan. 7th yet?!?!?!? :D

I just read the whole thread from scratch! I think I deserve a hereadsmin or something? Can't wait for the game- I think it's gonna be a great matchup and I wonder if it's one I'll really want to watch over and over while waiting for next season (got a feeling it's one I might skip through). TX & Tide are both real teams... Kind of like the LSU & FL games. I can't wait! Sorry for the brief interruption. Carry on.
