" Let's s get beyond the 11-14 record in two seasons, and the 5-11 record in SEC games. Or the four-game losing streaks in each of his two seasons.

Let’s overlook, for a moment, that those two rip-roaring seasons included losses to New Mexico State, Maryland, California, Vanderbilt and Arkansas. Or that Freeze is winless in five games against rivals Alabama, Georgia and LSU"

In all seriousness, how much is he getting paid again???

How did everyone forget this guy was 19-21 in the SEC ON THE FIELD at Ole Miss despite all the cheating? He had a good bought and paid for team in 2015, but his 6-2 SEC record coincided LSU's late-season collapse (after losing to us, they cratered) and Auburn's team that needed overtime to beat Jax State.

Think about that: Matt Luke, who was considered a disaster, was 15-21 in conference, but Freeze was the next Bill Walsh.

Hugh managed to parlay two unlikely wins over Alabama - both in which they were incredibly lucky - into "we need him at Auburn, he knows how to beat Alabama."

In the future, Auburn needs to go get "the best coach we can get to come to Auburn" and NOT "this guy has beaten Alabama," which was the impetus to hire both Malzahn (2010 OC) and Freeze.

This seems like an insane plan.

Idk why everyone seems to think they're going to be vastly improved. They have a few good players but a lot of analysts seem to be assuming Jackson Arnold will be way better than he was at OU. He should be a little better but not so much so that they should be good.

Wow... He was brought in for his recruiting and his play calling. His recruiting is mixed... #8 a couple of years but some have questioned the quality of those classes and a total flop this year. And now this? Seems like a system destined for failure.

That article is a bit interesting to unpack though...

- Auburn's roster being seriously playoff worthy is, ahh, a stretch.
- Should have a top 3 SEC defense if not the best... They were average last year.
- Saying they have the best WR tandem in college football? Coleman is good. The other guy is too, but his competition has suddenly increased from GA Tech.

Anyone actually know if the Barn OL will be good this year?

Exactly... Hugh was handed a roster with a dozen guys with SEC quality and while it has slowly been improving... Lots of work left.

I fully admit that I was thinking Auburn would be much improved this year, but I have to say that this completely changes my opinion.

I can't remember if it was under Shula or the early years of Saban, though I don't think it was, where we had the QB coach calling plays and not the OC? That seemed like a recipe for disaster, and this is 10 times worse.

The author is giving them some love after ripping Freeze on his record at the barn and his purpose play calling for this season.
Regarding their roster, they're unranked and pick to finish 11th place in the SEC for a reason. Their defense has good players on the DL and secondary. They recruited well in those two area in the last few classes, but among the best in the conference remains to be seen. Lastly, Coleman is clearly the best player on the offense. Simmons is the other productive freshman WR not the other WR he mentioned in the article. I'll take Ryan Williams and Bernard tandem over any SEC team without any Crimson glasses on.

By the way.....

2015 - college football adds an 8th on-the-field official in an effort to stop that slimy nonsense of running plays without guys being counted or subs entering the game.

Gus Malzahn who started 7-1 in the SEC, goes 28-22 in the SEC after the added official.
Hugh Freeze goes 8-8, admittedly with his best year in 2015, and gets canned.

Once they couldn't play their version of the Loyola Marymount On Grass offense, they were done.

I think that's what they did. Seriously, WHY would any great coach even consider that cesspool program...?🤔

Remember that their AD said that Freeze was a "Perfect" fit for their program. So far that has proven true!😎
