I am not a fan of the BCS, but for those complaining that FSU

shouldn't be in a BCS bowl, please consider. If you are in favor of a playoff system, FSU won their conference championship game. Therefore in any reasonable playoff scenario conference champions would be in the playoffs. If conference championship games determine conference representatives to this 'big dance,' FSU would have just played their way into the playoffs. Four losses or not!

But the playoffs would have played it out and FSU wouldn't go far. The BCS automatically puts them in a big game.

Before yesterdays game, they also barely made bowl eligible. They beat 6 Div. I teams and the Citadel.

And that doesn't change the fact that in a playoff system FSU would get in due to winning a conference championship game.

That is correct, but with the game being played on the field I would be willing to bet that they wouldn't last very long in a "Southern Region" playoff with teams like LSU, GA., FL., Miami, Alabama, Auburn, etc.....

My point was that FSU is just the beneficiary of winning a conference championship game regardless of what system is in place. If a team reaches a game that qualifies them for a berth in a game, there record is not a factor. The record was good enough to put them in position to win a championship despite numerous losses. I am not defending FSU so much as commenting on the vagaries of the current system as opposed to a play off system. I am merely pointing out that the same situation actually would occur in either system.

As far as FSU, i was belittled by some when I posted a poll earlier in the season about FSU being overrated.

But, you are making the false assumption that FSU has even a remote chance of winning the MNC. They don't, neither does VA Tech and there's your playoff. Va Tech wouldn't make it far if they couldn't beat FSU yesterday.

Not if they take the top 4, 8 or 16 teams for playoff spots.
What about number 5 and number 9 and number 17?

You are STILL relying on the polls to determine a champion...not in a finality scenario of 1 vs. 2, but in who gets to play for it. And ultimately what's the difference besides only a fractional more teams get to compete for it. LEt's face it...there are only 2 undefeateds this year and they are playing each other...what more does anyone want? Oh yeah, THEIR team included every year regardless of records.

Yep, and it gives an undeserving team a 14 million dollar payoff which wouldn't happen in a playoff format.

"Oh now, there you go again" - Ronald Wilson Reagan. FSU won it's CG, they earned it. Just like Georgia did yesterday.

Even in the basketball tourney

some undeserving team makes it while a 20+ win team is left out.

Congrats to FSU for winning the ACC.... and they deserve the reward.

Now if it was a true playoff, no FSU would not last long.....

You don't think a conference champion would get in? You'd have it come solely from rankings?
I thought the whole idea of playoffs was to remove the "pollsters". :) They'll still have major, major influence on any playoff system - unless it's a "win your conference, and get in scenario".

Texas 35, USC 21.

Not my point. FSU is currently ranked 22. They aren''t close to the top 16 in a hypothetical playoff selection.
Let me retort more clearly, YOU ARE STILL RELYING ON POLLSTERS, how is this any different than today's situation?

If BAMA had lost to MTSU, USM, Utah State, and MSU, then made it into the championship game and beaten Georgia 27 - 22, everyone here would overjoyed that our team was champions and on their way to a BCS bowl. Me included. Like or not the Seminoles are champions of a pretty tough league.
