I am officially amused at our anxiety over recruiting

I was a little bored so I went to BOL and looked at their Team Rankings back through 2002. I did not realize how poorly ranked our recruits were (as a whole) from 02 through 05. No wonder we struggled to break even. The amusement comes from those who wonder if our recruiting is "lagging" or whether we will get this 5* or that 4*. There were years when the overwhelming majority were 3* with a lot of 2* thrown in. Some of those turned out pretty well --JPW was a 3* as was Arenas and also Coffee. How things have changed at the Capstone! Thank you CNS.

There...I fixed the title for you. :)

Nice teaser title.

CNS has done wonders with the program, but it helps that we aren't on NCAA probation. That's the main reason for our less than stellar recruiting classes. It's good to be headed back in the right direction.

Agreed, the thread asking if our recruiting was falling off was almost laughable. Strike that, it was laughable. I'm still not convinced we aren't being overrun with a few aubie trolls.

If we land Massie, then we'll have signed the most formidable RB and OL combo I can remember any team ever signing. I just had a friend of mine who's an Arkansas fan call me and brag about the fact that Ronnie Wingo just named Arkansas his leader. I countered with my assessment of Fluker, Massie, Richardson, etc. . . and he quickly tried to change the subject.

Our recruiting is leaps and bounds above where we were at only a few short years ago. We won 12 games this year with a lot of 3-star players who were transformed by our S&C program and coached by the best. I can't wait to see what happens with these highly rated guys 2 or 3 years from now. We're stockpiling talent again like we did in the 60's and 70's. It's going to be a sweet ride. . .

:BigA:How times have changed!! Seems just a few years ago we were content on getting just a few big time recruits!! Now we act unhappy if we dont land them all! We have the probility of landing 2 of the top players by rivals in the top 10 in America with the possibility of landing 3 !! Now that is what I call top notch recruiting! Period!

I have noticed that during the season I check the Football board about once a day, yet during major recruiting season, I check the recruiting board at least 4-5 times a day. I become addicted...

I have been following Alabama recruiting for a long, long time and this is one of those eras where it is a pleasure to get on this site and know that there will be more good news than bad every time I log on. Please folks, enjoy what our staff is doing because it has been a long, long time since we were tearing it up in recruiting like the present time.

I noticed that where I used to sign on and go straight to the FB board, now I go straight to the recruiting board. I'm as excited as I was last year with the #1 recruiting class now that we have Richardson as well as Fluker and all the highly ranked linemen and still have a good shot at Randall to put opposite Julio. I see us playing in the SECCG again but probably with different results this time around.

Yeah, these last 10 years before Saban were some hard times on the recruiting trail, and Bama's recruiting was not something to be real proud of. Sure we landed a 4* or 5* here & there, but nothing like what we are doing now. All these people who say our recruiting is slacking off. Just need to go back to be reminded how good things are now for Bama recruiting ways. We are recruiting like the big dogs now, and I couldn't be more tickle, but Bama has always had the tools in place to recruit great. Bama just lack the big name coach to bring those players here.
We have one now..........

Now that Bama has got a great leader with coach Saban, and with all this great recruits coming to Bama now. This will bring us good times in the future, and just go look back at what other #1 classes have brought other programs that have good coaches. Championships were won at those places, and I think Saban will bring us to the promise land again one day........:)

I believe anxiety is directly proportional to the amount of time that has passed since we got a verbal. Its been more than a month since our last committment and it gives you the feeling that its all coming to a screeching halt. Add to that last weekend was our biggest visit weekend and we bagged no one. But we don't know whats really out there. I'm sure their are private commits we do not know about who are just waiting until NSD to announce publicly. I'm also sure we will win some battles between now and then, we won't win them all, we won't win as many as we want (which is all of them) but we will win our share. The big fish sign late and we now fish for the big ones.

In public speaking and writing, you're always taught that there's a difference between 'anxious' and 'eager.' The first, of course, is a medical term and the other is not. Most of want to appear 'eager' rather than 'anxious.'

Like a lot of us who follow recruiting, I think 'anxious' is absolutely the right word. There is an addictive quality to following recruiting, and anyone who doesn't have a few nerves heading into NSD must be some sort of cyborg.

Won't it be a great feeling, though, when Feb. 4th comes and goes and we can transition into 'eager'?

Well, I am anxious to see who we get out of the big ones that are still uncommitted. I'm eager to see what next year's team looks like. Coach Saban will be pushing everybody to compete and win their positions. It's just so good to see Alabama back in the top tier of the country. With the talent we're bringing in and the manner in which they're being coached, I can almost smell number 13 around the corner. :ROCKER:
