...and yes I've showered several times since then!
A good friend of mine was recently hired there (and I won't say doing what or who he is because he could lose his job if this were to get into the wrong hands... and we all know there are more AU lurkers here than UA I'm sure), and I just graduated college and decided to visit everyone, and he offered to do it one day while he was working, so I said what the heck...
Ready for the twist in the story that you never seen coming?
Just outside of the practice lockerroom hangs a big banner above the bulletin board that reads "Iron Bowl: Remember The Feeling" and the scores from 2002-2007 are posted on it.
On the bulletin board below that is a message posted saying "KNOW YOUR OPPONENT" and underneath that was a black and white image of Mark Ingram.... MARK INGRAM!
Inside of the lockerroom sets a framed quote of Nick Saban's "We have an opponent in this state which we will work 365 days a year to dominate" speech. I had heard they once had a countdown to the Iron Bowl clock inside of that very lockerroom, but I did not see it.
In the main foyer, almost EVERY painting is of a notable moment/play in one of their Iron Bowl victories (I'd say 3/4ths of the paintings are of the Iron Bowl). I seen nothing commemorating their glorious 2004 season... But I did see paintings of Brodie getting sacked and their sixth consecutive victory over the Tide.
In the conference room hangs yet another banner that reads "BEAT ALABAMA!" Nothing else is hanging on the wall. No paintings. No notices. Nothing but that.
And in their trophy room, besides the Heisman Trophies, the 2004 SEC trophy, and a few Bowl trophies (and a framed head statue of Slug Jordan - with even the acne scars on his cheeks:biggrin
, of course for every other trophy was seemingly something to do with the Iron Bowl ranging from their first victory over Alabama, to game balls with the score written on it, etc. etc.
I know it's always said that all their fans care about is beating Alabama. Nothing more or less. But seeing their athletic department first hand and the garbage inside of it, I couldn't help but share this with you guys, just to let you know it's not just the fans, but the university as well. I'm sure Cheez-whiz is already coming up with a gameplan for the 2010 Iron Bowl as we speak, instead of preparing for whoever their first opponent is.
And they ignorantly wonder WHY they can never manage to garner any respect by the state and national media... is there anyone with more than half a brain who would take a program that would rather defeat one REGULAR SEASON OPPONENT than win a national title seriously?
Is there any other team out there who considers defeating ONE regular season opponent a success, rather than winning a championship? This is why Aubarn takes the cake...
