Question: If You Could Go Back In Time and watch any Alabama football game in person...

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

1926 Rose Bowl game. I knew someone that played on the team and it would be great to be able to see him play when he was young. I only knew him after he had aged and became ill, so that would be extra special for me.

Alabama vs USC in Bama's last Rose Bowl (January, 1946 I think) and was it January 1966 when Bama defeated Nebraska in the Orange Bowl, (I think.) The little boys (Bama) playing the BIG boys of Nebraska. I would also have like to seen the Rose Bowl that the Bear played in or the Bama vs Tennessee game when he played with a broken leg.

They did not have a chance to win but I think the Crimson Tide really surprised the Huskers with the great passing game. I think Perk caught a few passes.

Watching all these games could help me compare athletes from years ago to our current athletes in size, strength and physical fitness. I don't think anybody compares to Mt. Cody in size.

I being younger would love to see any of the 60's and 70's games with the Bear. Yet, for me it would be the 89' Penn St. game, it is one of my earliest memories of Alabama football and I can just barely remember it, this was when I knew what it meant to be an Alabama fan.

I would love to go back and see the 1961 Sugar Bowl. Bear Bryant, Pat Trammel, Lee Roy Jordan, and Billy Neighbors all in one. Not to mention ol' Bear's first National Championship. I would love to see that in person more than anything.:BigA:

I'll do a top five.

1. '85 Bama vs. Auburn
2. '35 Bama vs. Stanford (Rose Bowl)
3. '79 Bama vs. Penn St. (Sugar Bowl)
4. '69 Bama vs. Ole Miss
5. '63 Bama vs. Okla (Orange Bowl)

This one's easy: the 1979 Sugar Bowl. Bama's best win ever.

I have Daniel Moore's print of "The Goal Line Stand." I wasn't yet born then, but it gives me goose bumps looking at it.

I watched the Goal Line Stand, The Kick, 93 Sugar Bowl, 99 at the swamp, etc.. I would really love to have been around to have watched any game during the 61 season.. A fan of great defenses, I would have loved to watch that team's defense in action.

I'm a student at UA and I'm taking an Alabama football course as part of my Blount minor (it goes much deeper than just Alabama football, but that's the best way to describe it). Annnnyway, we've been watching tons of documentaries and reading interesting books, and so I've seen highlights from tons of games lately.

1st: 1926 Rose Bowl. I just wrote a paper about how much impact this game had on the program and football in the South.

2nd: 1992 National Championship... do I need a reason? I was three, so I obviously didn't see it in person. Would have loved it, though.

3rd: 1979 Sugar Bowl... my dad was in law school at the Capstone then, and I've heard him talk about this game and it's something I wish I could have seen.

Honorable mention: Would have loved to see the MDB's "Halftime of a Lifetime" in person. Dorky, but true.

I'd want to watch the 1946 Rose Bowl, just to see Harry Gilmer play. My Dad was stationed in San Diego, waiting to ship out for the invasion of Japan when Bama traveled out there. Tickets were impossible to get out there, especially for an enlisted man. Anyway, my Grandfather was Sheriff of Walker County and my Dad somehow scrapped together $75 and sent it to a Judge was a Bama grad and a political ally of my Grandfather, hoping that he would be able to get him a ticket. Anyway, the judge sent my Dad's money back, along with 2 tickets. My Dad bet the money on Bama, saw the game with a buddy and won a bunch of money (Bama was a big underdog). Heard that story all my life, along with the stories of how great Gilmer was, so I'd like to see it.

The Sugar Bowl v. Notre Dame in the early 70s. (yeah...I know...we lost...before breaking out the tar & feathers, let me explain...)

That's the *only* Bama game I ever saw in person w/ my Dad, who died suddenly in Dec. 1974 when he was 3 years younger than I am now. I'd give pretty much everything I've had since then to watch that one again sitting there by his side, learning from him how to be a die-hard, passionate Tide fan w/o being transformed into the north end of a south-bound horse...even when we lose a close one to the hated Irish. I pretty much have a "Dad, I remember" moment every time I watch a game. Any game. Ours or anyone else's. Live or on TV. (Ever seen a guy discreetly wiping a tear in BDS or Legion Field back in the day at the most random, joyful time? That was prolly me...*blushes* ;) )

So, yeah...that'd be the one for me.

exiled

p.s. - my 2nd choice would be "The kick" w/ the future mrs. exiled rt there by my side in Legion--what a great day that was!...3rd would be the Goal Line Stand, which I watched on TV...

That was what I really meant. I've told the story before, but one of the last things my dad said to my mom before dying in February, 1958 was "Lillian, Alabama's going to be all right; Coach Bryant's coming back." Fifty years later, I can scarcely type it without choking up...

You guys are choking me up.
I took my 6 yo to his first game this year. He's a huge Bama fan. It was just him and I. It was the North Texas game and you know how much it rained up until the game. We had poncho's and walked around in the rain all morning seeing the pep rally and hanging out at the quad. Even though it was a terrible weather morning we had the best time. Just seeing the look on his face when we entered Bryant-Denny was priceless. I'll never forget that moment and reading your posts, maybe he'll never forget the day we spent together either.

The game I would like to see in person would be '79'. I was about 12 and remember parts of the game (watched it on TV). I would have loved to experience the game seeing Bryant on one sideline and Paterno across the field on the other.

That's a great story. Harry Gilmer was my first Bama hero.

1961, vs the goobs. My favorite team skunks barny 34-0 for the third of four years that they didn't score a point on us. Those guys played lights out D all year long.

by far would be 1979 goal line stand, thats when I really became a BAMA fan. Was 10 years old. I was in awe, watching that on TV. My dad was a aubarn fan, I can still remember him saying. "wow, I cant believe that"

Same for me (except the part about dad being an Auburn fan:eek2:). I was also 10 years old and watched the whole thing on TV. I've been hooked on Bama football ever since!!
