Immigration/Border Security Policy Thread

I'm not a huge fan of Rapinoe and her shenanigans but that is a ridiculous reading of her expression after the kick. That was a textbook example of a "I can't believe I just did that" wry smile. She was probably on the edge of a breakdown like Sophia was.

I don't know what was going through her head (did she say what you said in a post game interview?) but at the very least the optics weren't good. Especially given the context of us losing the game.....

Didn't have to. One doesn't have to be a mind reader to see profound heartbreak in missing a game winner.

But if you're curious, she called the situation a "sick joke." That tracks. Say what you will about her, but she hates to lose and this will haunt her. Hopefully not too much because her career is a storied one.

Democratic mayor Karen Bass:

"LA has not extended an invitation asking for people to come. This is a political act."

The Los Angeles City Council voted in June to make the city a sanctuary city for immigrants.

On Tuesday, Bass again condemned Abbott for sending the buses.

"This evening, Los Angeles received another bus from Texas. That means that while we were urging Angelenos to stay safe, the Governor of Texas was sending a bus with families and toddlers straight towards us KNOWING they’d have to drive right into an unprecedented storm," Bass tweeted on X. "Evil."

Abbott has installed circular saws between the Rio Grande border buoys to maim or kill anyone who attempts to climb over," Jordahl wrote in the post. "Two bodies have already been found trapped in the floating barrier. He wants more migrants to die."

Rep. Sylvia Garcia

Appalled by the ongoing cruel and inhumane tactics employed by
@GovAbbott
at the Texas border. The situation's reality is unsettling as these buoys' true danger and brutality come to light. We must stop this NOW!

How did I miss this?

Some of the waived federal laws include the Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act and Safe Water Drinking Act, to prevent lengthy reviews and lawsuits challenging the violation of such laws, The Associated Press (AP) reported.

“There is presently an acute and immediate need to construct physical barriers and roads in the vicinity of the border of the United States in order to prevent unlawful entries into the United States in the project areas,” DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said in the statement.

(election coming up....better start getting something done....lol...)

Can't tell if serious. I'm leaning to political theater, myself.
