Importance Of TN Game For Recruiting

How much does our performance against Tennessee this weekend affect the minds of our recruits? In other words, is this weekend's game against Tennessee more important to us recruiting-wise than the Florida? It seems that there are a lot of high-profile recruits who are going to be at this game (even some high-profile recruits that were not originally looking at us). If we win, it seems that would give us more momentum recruiting (although I know we still have tough games left against LSU and Auburn). If we lose, it seems that we might take a step back from proving to some recruits that we are back on track to competing for a National Championship as well as maybe showing us that we are not as good as we thought. Does anyone have any thoughts on the subject?

Winning big games can't hurt, but winning is not the main factor in getting good players. If it were, then Oklahoma and Miami and Alabama would not be able to recruit well when on hard times and losing. And they would never be able to rebound and get back on top.

No doubt it is easier to recruit during a winining season (no brainer)
In the past few years I feel these young men have been looking a little past all the hype and more into "what can you do for my pro career" QB's won't go where there is an estblished Jr or Red shirted QB and running backs look at the scheme run by the program he is considering.
It's all a business for a lot of them. sure there are a few Britt type families left that tradition still means more to than the average recruit. Some kids grow up with visions of wearing a Crimson jersey and nothing a UT or Auburn coach could do would change their minds. On the whole these recruits are looking to be starts and want to be in a program where they can shine. RTR

Since so many recruits have chosen this game for their official visit, and so many will be at the game (Tebow included), I think that a win this week is more important than most weeks. A great crowd and gameday environment might overcome a close loss, but the recruits must come away from the game in awe of the experience, wanting to be a part of something like it in the future...

This game is hugely important to recruiting for several obvious reasons:

1. A win keeps Bama undefeated and in the discussion regarding NC contenders. Recruits want play for NC contenders.

2. UT has beaten Bama 9 out of last 10 years. Recruits don't want to go to schools that can't beat a chief rival.

3. This game coincides with the official visits of many of Bama's most important remaining recruiting targets most notably Tim Tebow, who has about 3-4 top recruits waiting on his commitment so that they might follow him to his chosen school.

4. Winning football keeps the crowd active, alive and loud creating a gameday atmosphere that is exciting and appealing to potential recruits. Losing football is depressing and puts a huge damper on recruiting visits as well as perception of the program's strength.

I think the most important thing for a recruit is how well he will fit into the system and how much he likes the coaching staff. The atmosphere and rivalry is good and adds excitement to the visit but I don't think that or whether we win or lose will sway a kid one way or the other.

You guys were pretty hard on my point about beating your chief rivals. I guess I was thinking if you want to repeat of what happened after the UF game, where guys get caught up in the joy and emotion of the moment and commit to the coaches in the locker room after game, it definately helps if it is the winning locker room.

I don't know if cigars are still considered an illegal benefit, but I hope someone is able to offer Tim Tebow one late Saturday afternoon...even if he isn't able to accept it. RTR.
