Question: In light of Andre's suspension, who will start at left tackle?

This is where you say WOW! Sugar Bowl just days away & sudden out of nowhere Andre Smith what ever he did get's to watch the game at home.
While our offense has to shift & switch around players. Now the question is will Alabama have enough time to get the replacement players ready to play? Why? It could harm our running game. Maybe?

Am I correctly remembering that Drew Davis moved to LT and JM Boswell was at RT for most of the Tulane game?
Yes. Not only were we without Andre, but Marlon Davis went out in the first half of the Tulane game with a sprained knee leaving the OL short two starters and a fluid depth chart. We experimented with several combinations before settling on JM Boswell, D Ross, A Caldwell, M Johnson, D Davis

It is amazing that in the last three big bowl games (Sugar this year, Orange several years ago, and the NC game) we have had trouble with agents. Something stinks and it's not Burn's underwear after seeing Cody come after him.

1 - This looks to be the OL as of today ....
78 74 59 76 79
79 66 73 66 67
Cardwell was passed by Vlachos back around the middle of the season .

2 - Peek is eligible to play but , injured his foot = very doubtful .

3 - B.Jones had shoulder surgery and will seek a MRS/hardship = will not play .
4 - Love is also injured and will seek a MRS/hardship as well = will not play .

Seems a little arbitrary huh? Of course, it is the NCAA.
It may seem arbitrary but you won't see any institutions challenging it. This isn't the NFL where players have multi-year contracts tieing them to one team. Scholarships are for just one year at a time. If players could transfer at will at the end of the year with no consequences then you'd have people flying all over the place whenever they didn't get to play as often as they think they should. It would make things a nightmare for administrators which is why I don't think they would ever be in favor of it.

Colin Peek will use up a whole year of eligibility if he plays in the Sugar Bowl, but is willing to do so because the five years part of the "five years to play four" eligibility clock will run out before he's played four full seasons.

Timeline:
2005 Season - Played as a true freshman at Ga Tech.
2006 Season - Redshirted at Ga Tech.
2007 Season - Played as a redshirt sophomore at Ga Tech. Transferred to Alabama in December 2007 when Tech hired Paul Johnson (who doesn't use TEs in his offense).
2008 Season - Sat out one calendar year (Dec 07-Dec 08) at Alabama per NCAA transfer rules. Asked the NCAA to extend the 'five year" clock to 6 years due to the circumstances of his transfer. Request was denied. He appealed the NCAA ruling and his appeal was denied.
2009 Season - Will play at Alabama.
Nowhere in the Bylaws or Transfer Handbook do I see it say one calendar year is the sit out time. Trust me, I looked at every possible bylaw or rule in the handbook that even remotely applied to eligibility, transfer from one 4 year school to another 4 year, post season definitions as they apply to both and the definition of season. Rather, I am worried that the sit out time is based on an eligibility year which is based on playing at any time in one season. If I missed something, please point it out.

Perhaps John Michael Boswell will be able to step up an fill big Andre's shoes?

Guys , there's no need to go as far as reading up on the rules . Just run a search for "Colin Peek bowl eligible" . There is at least one thread about him which contains several links quoting the UofA and CNS when it was publicly announcied that Colin Peek would be eligible to play this post season :)

It was widely covered by all of the usual suspects but , is a rather moot point now since he has a bad foot from a stress fracture . Still practicing some though .
