I’m not saying they went to the extent of Michigan a couple years ago. But I have first hand knowledge from my friend who is a high school football coach.

He gets certain perks to go to different seminars with the coaching staff and listen to various speakers as well.

Coach Wommack directly told him Indiana had our signs and signals on both sides of the ball. He told him they did it all year to every opponent.

He was kind of vague how it happened but he said 100% they knew the plays before hand. Obviously that explains a lot.

Here’s a picture my friend took, notice Coach Wommack is without his shoes.

My friend liked his shoes and he took them directly off his feet and gave them to him. Lol.

Said they were the shoes they gave them to wear in the playoffs.

I just thought it would be interesting info to pass along. He did say Cignetti is obviously very smart and the way they went about it he doesn’t think will ever be able to either be proven, or even deemed illegal - but our coaching staff 100% knows they did and not in our game only - all season.

Sign stealing at some level goes on in most every level. Oklahoma and Clemson being a couple of the more notorious. In the 2013 NCG between the Barn and FSU, Auburn jumped out to a 21-3 lead primarily on Dameyune Craig (Auburn’s co-OC) having FSU offensive signals. He had been on FSU’s staff the previous year. FSU started covering up the signal callers with white towels in the second half. Jimbo stated “ sign stealing is part of the game, and didn’t consider it cheating”. He and the staff should have rotated/changed their signals, particularly since a former coach was on Auburn’s sideline.

If Indiana DID have our signals, much of that falls on OUR staff in not changing them. IMO in that situation you almost have to assume your opponent will attempt to do it.

I thought the same thing. We know opponents try to do it though film study. Now like you said, Michigan went way too far with it. So it wouldn’t be the first time a B1G team actually took it to an illegal level.

yeah, it's not like any of these coaches study film or hire folks to do that.

The American passion has clearly become sore losing. If "my team," the other team obviously "cheated." None of that gentlemanly stuff of fighting it out and the thrill of the competition.

All the teams we shredded over 15 or so years now have whiny little fans who sign onto the internet and tell us all what a coward Saban is, ran away because he "was the only one paying players" and "now the playing field was even" and "he couldn't handle the competition." Never mind that in the three years after the legalization of NIL, Saban was 36-6 (.857), and two of his losses were to teams that won the national championship and had to beat Alabama to get there.

We have Alabama fans who still haven't gotten over the Cam Newton scandal, but for the life of me I don't understand it. Texas A/M "bought a roster" a few years ago and Jimbo got fired after it failed to produce. Texas fans will tell you they have more money than anybody, and the SWC was a cesspool of corruption, but Texas has won ONE national championship since 1971 - and they got help in that one on a botched officiating call. Sure, Cam Newton was paid, but the dollar bills don't throw the ball, either. Albert Means was paid, too, and remember that national championship he led us to in 2001? You probably don't because he didn't hold the rope,, either.

Discrediting teams you don't like has become the national pastime ahead of baseball.

"Auburn was on probation in 1957" - so what?
"The referees screwed us in (name of game......1990 Sugar Bowl, 1995 Arkansas, etc)
"If this player hadn't been hurt" (aka the official religion of Pope Colt McCoy)
"the SEC offices are in Birmingham" (same location they were when we got hit with probation)
"the scheduling was unfair because Team X had an off week"
"they played a cupcake schedule"


This may shock some people but the poker player with the best hand doesn't always win.

Probably a little of it all, all the way down to the things we heard certain OL would do before each play indicating run or pass.

Really makes you wonder at the very least about our coaching staff.

We do have helmet comms but they go off with 15s left in the play clock. Changing the play after this a preplanned check or signal from the sideline.

But with technology today and lack of inspection, a player could have a microphone or recording device planted in their helmet to record audio in the field of play. Then all you have to do is match the audio to the play ran and you know what the other team is going to do.

If you will notice, a pitcher always has his glove and person inspected before he takes the mound. But I dont dee anything like that being done in football.

I have felt something was amiss all along, you cant tell me the starters at JMU somehow developed into NC at Indiana, the losing program in FBS history.

We were calling plays in and we were also using sideline signs. Complex system.

He said he didn’t know if they could stop it, but it is pretty well known within the coaching circle what they did and
he believes teams will be more prepared to combat it.

I don’t really want to go beyond what Coach Wommack said because anything outside of that is just speculation.

I guess we could speculate how it happened tho, lol.

Yes, this is where I spend the majority of my internet time, this site usually has the best information available concerning the University of Alabama athletics programs I am interested in. I peruse this site during work breaks, or when I don't feel like watching any television.

Additionally, just because I say things you don't agree with doesn't mean there isn't any substance to what I post. Your opinion is your opinion, and you're entitled to it.

Yes, Indiana did in fact win the game against Penn State, but it took a play more magnificent than Rocky Block, and with a similar chance of success as Grave Digger. Indiana knowing Penn State's signals and needing a miraculous play to win only emphasizes the gap in physicality between Indiana and Alabama, not to mention Penn State and Alabama.

Finally, part of me sincerely hopes your friend is embellishing, because the alternative is that Wommack is a complete and utter loser for vocalizing that nonsense to a fan as the primary reason for Alabama's loss to Indiana. I'm not sure he needs to be the defensive coordinator for a co-ed elementary school flag football team, let alone a major university if he doesn't realize his defense was physically dominated for that entire football game. Indiana made that team physically not want to be on that football field. Alabama players were so tired of being physically dominated one on one that the desire to be on that football field left their bodies, and the running backs had a field day running the football. This doesn't even address the fact that if he really feels like sign stealing is the reason for the loss, he will not begin to address the true reason Alabama has fallen from the elite tier of college football: a complete dropoff in physicality.
