"Alabama is listed second in the first edition of the BCS rankings, followed by Penn State in third. Not everybody is buying into head coach Nick Saban and company, certainly not the oddsmakers at Las Vegas Sports Consultants, the company that provides the lines to over 90 percent of the casinos in Nevada. At the start of the season, ‘Bama was listed 31st position by the LVSC rankings while the AP voters had the Crimson Tide penciled into the 24th slot. A few big wins over Clemson and Georgia pushed them up to No. 2 in the BCS and AP polls. Still, LVSC has ‘Bama listed seventh (see below) in the overall rankings."

I wonder if their ratings are based on a team's route to the championship game. :conf2:

Still, you would then think that Penn State would be their #1, as they only have to beat 1 good team to make it - unless they are convinced that Penn State will lose this weekend.

Seriously, I can't figure out how they came up with these poll results. Pure speculation, IMO...

I think vegas does everything by the point spread...we're not covering like we should...so they down grade us...
They rate everything by "who would be favored if they play tonight".
Their thinking is that are six teams in America that would be favored over Bama, regardless of the results this season. In other words, if we played Georgia again, even though we beat them, they would still favor Georgia.
If we played USC, they would be favored. Like wise probably if we played Texas, Oklahoma,Florida, and one other team.
Doesn't mean they think those teams are better than us. They'd just favor them to keep the money bet at 50-50 so they can make their 10% and move on to the next game.

The more we seem to struggle in games we shouldn't, the more that will seem to have been a fluke. JMO (and no, I'm NOT saying I agree).
It's weird how anyone could think that way (of course you aren't, I'm just saying). A Clint Stoerner moment is a fluke, but that game was an out and out butt whooping.

I should add that a lot of gamblers don't like the Tide because of our historical and recent inability to cover spreads when we're a favorite. This characteristic of our's pretty much goes all the way back to the Xen Scott days.

But the flipside is that UA is MONEY when we're the underdog. Well, not 100% perfect, but beats the spread as a dog more often than not.

Usually, Vegas just keeps the books, and it changes the odds not according to some analyst opinion, but such that the house makes money whoever wins.

If Alabama is not favored in Vegas, it's because people are betting on other teams. This is a great time to put your money where your mouth is.

I think it's great.

Case in point:

1st Half line this Saturday
Alabama -3.5

Alabama has outscored its opponents 95-3 in the first quarter and 171-23 in the first half so far this year.

Just sayin...

The BIG problem with Bama here in Vega$ is that BAMA almost "never" covers!

Odds makers just absolutely hate it when a team can become almost "predictable" to the gamblers and therefore the house can lose..... lol

I love it!

..........and "never-forget" that those big ole hotel/casinos were/are "not" built by winners; quite the opposite, on losers of bets, ie, the house!!!

Go "BAMA", continue to exploit the casinos!:BigA:

1 Southern Cal 113.8 1 Schedule sets up nicely.
As in, every week is an off week until the bowl game.

If the poll doesn't lose you after reading the top ten, just look at the next ten in, among those being Tennessee and Auburn...what a joke!

Wait does this mean a person could just bet on the outcome of the first half?
I'm not a gambling man but....

The only guys crunching numbers that I trust is Phil Steele and co., and they still got a lot wrong on this season, so far.

He picked Auburn to win the west, and only a miracle will let that happen now. He also picked Clemson to win the ACC, and Texas to finish third in the Big XII South. Of course Steele comes closer than most.
