Sounds to me like Franchione has been fighting demons since he was very young. None of us can accept what he did here, but then again, none of us probably understands what's in the man's mind and heart. Lose your mom and then dad to suicide on the same day? Who knows what's been driving him ... or chasing him?

I personally wish him well.

Return to Glory: Well he has certainly played things exactly like that, before & after Alabama, too - one thing: he is clever & calculating ...

I believe you're right on the money, Return to Glory...This is probably another ploy of his to gain the sympathy vote that he hopes will soften some school to "give him another chance".

But alas, Remember that saying:" "Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me?

I'd NEVER - NEVER fall for a thing when it comes to that man...

I thought Tyler put it best ......
“He just burns too many bridges,” says Watts, the former Alabama quarterback. “At some point, you build a track record. People stop believing what you’re saying. He is not as concerned with the welfare of the players as he is of the welfare of Dennis Franchione.”

The article mentions that fran had talked to OU before they hired Bob Stoops. Not only is that correct but fran was OU's first choice according to Steve Owens who was their former AD and on the OU selection committee. I had dinner with Steve, Tinker Ownes and some other OU people during the Bama-OU baseball game that April at Barry Switzer's restaurant there at the Bricktown baseball park. Steve was trying to tell me we had made a great hire in fran. Tinker even reminded me that OU was on probation when he came in as a freshmen but they won an NC before the graduated. Steve was quick to add that things just went quicker with Bob Stoops and they wouldn't trade him with anybody now that they had him. How history would have been changed had they been "lucky" enough to get fran!
We won the baseball game 17-3 but OU won both football games in the next couple of years in the home and home series.

Well...I do feel some sympathy for the man. That's some brutal family-of-origin background to have to live with.

That said, I wouldn't touch him with a 100 foot pole

“If there had been a thought of this being bad or wrong, gosh, we would’ve never done it,” Franchione says. “I wish I had never done it, period.”
Interesting how he seems to repeatedly cross lines of decorum or legality and this seems to be his consistent response. There are people who repeatedly do things that are wrong and honestly didn't realize that what they were doing might be wrong. They are called sociopaths.

As an opportunitst some times you are in the right place at the right time and you take advantage of people and circumstances to better your situation, but sometimes it does not work as you have it planned and you wind up "out in the cold". Such is life for Dennis, he took advantage of people and circumstances along the way and did okay for himself, but in the end his ego and belief that he was above failure led to his firing at TAMU. That plus the fact that he is not a very good coach should give him lots to think about in his room during his retirement.

This one quote sums up Dennis Franchione:

“I didn’t know there was an ethical standard for that.”

Sorry but I have no sympathy for fRAN. You reap what you sow and his crop is now being harvested...................:BigA:
