Interesting Article: We could win out, but not make the playoffs

Alabama needs some help.
Alabama's abysmal showing against Tejas and USF really undermined those who argue for Alabama's inclusion in the playoffs. Absolutely atrocious. Unbelievably bad showing against those two.
That said, beating LSU, Ken-tuck-ee, the Cow College, and then Georgia, and it is difficult to argue that Alabama is not one of the four best teams. We shall see.
But Tejas and USF were really, really bad showings.

I highly doubt it. I mean, it could happen, but I doubt there will be more than 2 undefeateds by the end, if there's even that many. If you take a look at last year, there were 6 undefeated teams heading into this same week. This year, we only have 5 undefeateds who actually have a shot at the playoff. The rankings will sort themselves out. They always do. If I had to guess, at least one more undefeated will go down this week. It might benefit us for that to not be Georgia, but I don't see it being an issue when it's all said and done. This is college football. Chaos will ensue at some point. It always does.

Especially since the extension center hung 56 on USF a few weeks ago in Bham. UAB is not a good football team but USF is much worse.

The USF game just goes to show you how team psyche can affect a game. We played like we were cutting wood with a dull axe.

ESPN has a calculator here: https://www.espn.com/espn/feature/story/_/page/cfbplayoffpredictor/cfb-playoff-predictor

Currently they list the odds of making the playoffs at 96% if Alabama wins out. I'd say that's about right.

Alabama has the highest SoS of any contender, if they add a LSU and Georgia win along with road wins against Kentucky and Auburn, they will have the best resume of any one loss team.
If the ESPN calculations are correct the most likely path is to beat Georgia and then have Oregon beat Washington. If the committee was paying close attention though they know that Oregon should have beaten Washington if not for poor decisions by Lanning.

anyone who thinks Washington is going through this season undefeated and bases their case on that, quite frankly isn't worth listening to in the first place.

And everybody keeps forgetting that upsets happen every single year.

If we win out including Georgia , I cannot see one single set of circumstances where we would not be in the playoff.

Because other teams above us are, in fact, going to lose.

In theory, yes, we could be left out.
but it would take something I simply cannot imagine happening to enable it.
Only twice have we had three unbeaten teams, and if you'll go back and look at those seasons, they had a couple of dominant teams in both of them.

There is nobody looking all-world right now.

As critical as I've been of our offensive woes, the argument would be those were early games and we got a lot better. And if we win out with a couple of tough games remaining (LSU and KY on the road) it will only happen because the team improved drastically from those two games.

Especially since the extension center hung 56 on USF a few weeks ago in Bham. UAB is not a good football team but USF is much worse.

No one will ever convince me the team gave 100% that day. I don't care who was under center...we don't look that inept if everybody was locked in that day!

If Bama and Georgia don’t lose again and Bama wins the SECCG, they’re in. Full stop.
Doesnt matter if Georgia is one or two. SEC as a conference is light years better than the Big eight; they have two decent teams and that’s it.
The committee does look at when losses occur, no matter what anyone says.

I said it in another thread but if everyone wins out I think we get in over an undefeated FSU.

Their best win would maybe be LSU which would be our 3rd best win?

But we have to beat LSU before I truly worry about this.
Yeah, it's a little early to even worry about this. We could easily lose to LSU and KY and be turning our attention fully to basketball by Thanksgiving.
