Re: Iron Bowl "Scrimmage" to Raise Money for Tornado Victims

Bad idea. I like the spirit of it but I think there's better fundraisers to do. I like the idea of using the popularity of both head coaches within their fanbase to generate money. Whether it be auction off a "Day with Coach Saban/Chizik" or whatever. But I don't think a scrimmage is a good idea......at all.

Instead of the Iron Bowl, why not UA v Troy and AU v UAB?

Don't like the idea, personally. Seems like there are plenty of ways to raise money without putting the athletes at an increased risk for potential injuries just for show...

Re: Iron Bowl "Scrimmage" to Raise Money for Tornado Victims

If I learned anything about this state over the years is that another IronBowl is not the best way to bring unity to the state. Way too much bad blood. Would it raise money? Sure, but the rest of the ncaa might resent the extra practice time.(out of 119 teams, you know somebody will complain about it). Would it be scout team vs scout team in an exhibition game? Would you play Richardson or Barron in an exhibiton game? I sure wouldn't. I think the IronBowl is one of the best things we have going in this state and I say leave it alone. It's once a year for a year's worth of bragging rights.

Very, very bad idea IMO. Plenty of other ways for the teams to raise money to help, no need to get both fan bases on edge for a meaningless game and risk injury that could doom a season. How would you feel if a chop block took out one of our players for the year in a game that doesn't even count?

Better idea would to give all proceeds from this year's real Iron Bowl to the tornado relief efforts.

Horrible idea, and I don't know why things like this get posted as legitimate. It's an idea that someone on facebook had, nothing more.

I cant believe over 1,100 people have "liked" the idea. I like BiB's idea - flag football game with the legends.

Don't like the scrimmage idea at all. But how about a softball game with former players and the current coaching staffs could coach the teams. Get some high profile sports commentators for the umpires.

I like this idea. Have it in the mold of the old MTV's "Rock-n-Jock" softball games that were on tv in the 80/90s. And don't limit it to just players being able to play in this game. Invite famous alumns like Sela Ward, or famous Alabamians like Courtney Cox, Lucas Black (f/f: Tokyo Drift), Channing Tatum (Duke from GI Joe), etc and others and turn this into a flat out party.

Terrible idea, injuries, hard feelings, logistics___ terrible, terrible idea...

Why don't they just have a civil war reenactment with the actual soldiers and live ammo while they are at it?

Legends game with flags with Saban and Chizik coaching is a much better idea...

I say they should get an old timers games from both schools coached by Dye and Stallings. Maybe have Saban and Chizik play QB for both teams. Charge people to get in and send all proceeds to charity or whatever the money needs to go to.

The NZAA would NEVER let us have a scrimmage.

Maybe something has changed, but the actual FB page states having alumni play not current players.

I think this idea sucks. I think a better idea would be for some of the great Tuscaloosa musicians like Chuck Leavell, piano player for the Stones and some others to put together a concert, maybe a series of concerts around the area or the state to raise money. This is a much better idea......
