You're tired of hearing about it? Well, until he loses, you better get used to hearing about it...Many of you are making fun of his offense, and are still running around saying "he's in the sec now, it won't work here." Funny thing, I seem to recall back in 1990 when another new head coach at UF started out with a new offense called the "fun and gun" and people were saying the same thing....

I was about to start a thread about this same subject. That's all thats been in the papers and on here. I just hope our D is as sick of how great it is as I am.

I see no reason why we dont shut them down. You look back last season, every real good team we played our D was up to the challange. We just didn't get any help from the O. We shut Auburn's O down and UF doesn't have near the talent Auburn did. I hope Kines has that bullentin board full of how great UF's O is. Bama's D is not getting any respect going into the game. Not from national media, state media, and form what I've read on here, not from some of its own fans. Our D has just got to be foaming at the mouth to get them on the field. I know i am. UF better come ready to play some D cause I promise you Bama's D is going to be tough to move the ball on.

I'm past sick. I'm about to the point of ****ed off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :mad2: :mad2:

Fulmer, you make some good points, but I beg to differ on one thing.. ;) Listening to talk radio today, listening to espn talking heads, etc.etc...I have heard NOTHING BUT praise for how good our D is and how they will shut Meyer's offense down...Practically all the pundits I have heard(except Keith Dunvant on Finebaum) are going with Bama on this one....

Historically speaking...

Great Defense vs Great Offense. Defense "most often" wins.

While, I think our defense and Meyers offense is the "feature" attraction for the media, the game will be decided by how well our offense plays against Florida's defense.

I guess we are listening, watching or reading different things. All I've seen about our D is nothing more than a after thought or a " oh by the way". I just hope our D is getting their sports from the same place as me and not yours. ;)

Yea, I agree...up in Jackson county, you are obviously not hearing the same thing that's playing down here in the central part of the state--that is, how great our d is and how UF's option offense and Chris Leak are no good against it. That's all I have heard on the airwaves today and yesterday....

Well, suppose Coach Shula had came to us with a 43-8 record, how many of us would be complaining about all the attention heaped on him by the media? I'd say, about ZERO. Besides, I think the point is more about the 43-8 record than about his offense. Winners always attract more attention than losers. If Meyer was 43-8 with an extremely vanilla offense, he'd still garner more attention than someone with a mediocre record with an exotic offense.

Wisdom post. I for one am and have been tired of hearing about Fla period. For Meyer to compare the swamp to BDS or their very young tradition to Alabamas is gettin old. I know that it will be a small blip on the college football radar over the years to come ( as Alabama) returns to its place in the SEC but still, give it a rest..

Interesting note:

UM started developing the spread option while at Notre Dame. Another young assistant was also developing the same offense while there...one Skip Holtz. Skip ran a version of this offense while HC at UConn and then tried to implement it at USC while OC under his dad but was vetoed by the elder Holtz who kept tight reigns on Skip's play calling.

A lot of us in Columbia wonder if things might have ended differently during the Holtz era if Lou had given Skip free reign to run his version of the spread option instead of the 45 qb draws a game Lou ran his last 2 seasons at USC.

Tommy Bowden also ran an offense somewhat similar to the spread option at Tulane and then his first few seasons at clemson. In all cases (as with any offense) having the right qb is critical to making the offense work.

Bama's key to victory, hit Leak early and often as he is not a prototypical running qb and seems to not enjoy the physcallity of the new offense as much as Smith did at Utah last season.

Well, I hope that is not the case this time, becasue there are many 'pundits' and statistics which state their defense is better than ours.
