Is Bama fatigue the reason our kicker didn't win The Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award?

These popularity awards are given to standouts and though he has not missed a kick there is no way for him to stand out when we win games by 30+ points all season. Now, had he hit a couple of game winners it would be a different story.

The Miami kicker had a great year and was a worthy winner. He made a 57 yarder this year, also. I would have liked for Will to win it, but I can't really argue too much with the choice.

I can't complain at all with how the awards went. If I had to wager I'd guess that it had to do with attempts.

I thought that Surtain should have won the Thorpe. Otherwise, it went about as well as Alabama fans could hope.

I can imagine the scene: “They won the Heisman, the Joe Moore, the AP Player of the Year, the Doak Walker, the Biletnikoff, the Maxwell, the Walter Camp Player of the Year, the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm, the Davey OBrien Award, the Paul Hornung Award, the Outland Trophy, the Rimington Trophy, and the Broyles Award. I’ll be dammed if they’re walking away with the Lou Groza Award.”

Guess I should have put it in blue font.

I’m fatigued about people complaining about Bama fatigue

Reminds me of a decent ball player in the 70s, Joe Rudi. About every other month there’d be an article about how Rudi never got any ink about what a great player he was. Finally, someone asked Rudi about it and he said he got little coverage about being a good player but plenty of ink about not getting any ink.

Bama fatigue, this mythical illness foremost in the minds of fans who apparently drive little crimson Volkswagens through western Alabama with a grey elephant tail sticking out the back but nobody even waves because we’ve all seen it - these are the fans whose esteem is lowered and Xanax prescriptions increased every single time they mention the dreaded nonexistent illness. They subscribe to the Lyndon LaRouche newsletter and view every single legitimate comment (“Ole Miss showed the Tide defense may need to up their tackling game”) as proof of a sinister conspiracy hatched in the Auburn science department with water contaminated by cow dung designed to alter the brains of all newborns in the state of Alabama.

Fans of other programs have this invisible illness which not so long ago led to them being called “haters.” But CFP selectors and ESPN have the vaccine and are thoroughly immune from this nonsensical justification to make sense to the lives of people who probably need to take a break from Uncle Frank’s social media.

Big game Monday night. Let's hope that Will doesnt have to prove his worth. And if he DOES have to prove it..Let's hope he DOES. 🤔
I am still scarred from that horribly shanked 35yd FG that would have won the game in regulation in the 2017/2018 title game. It gave us 2nd & 26/ 2nd & Tua, but man that was just an exclamation mark on 5yrs of atrocious kicking. Riechard looks like the real deal but man, it might take me a while to get over all that scar tissue. I still get nervous every time we line up for a kick at any distance and it has nothing to do with our current kicker!

Just like with the Ray Guy award, team mediocrity is rewarded. You've got to have so many punts and so many FGs to qualify or even if qualified, to be truly considered. So if you team is mediocre and has to punt or settle for FGs a lot, you've got a leg up. Pun intended.
A punter on a bad team has an easier time having a long kick. If you punt from your own ten you are going to have a higher average than punting from midfield.
