Is it Really the Time to Consider Firing CKD???

Lots of posters saying “it’s one game”, it’s not. 5-5 in the last 10 games. 4 losses to unranked teams in 14 games. This is much more than 1 game, it’s a pattern.

We were told, by players and coaches, that things had changed. The team was hungry, motivated and focused. The oline was going to be great, the DBs were lock down great, etc. Well, none of that was evident on Saturday. The team looked exactly like last year’s with the same problems and mistakes, especially Womack’s defense (he should have been canned after last year).

If CKD misses the playoffs again, I say send him packing. Are we really willing to watch him completely tear down everything Saban built because the buyout is expensive?

It would probably take a J.B. Whitworth type season to get fired in year 2

I haven't actually been on the fire DeBoer bus just yet, mor
But he’s making the same mistakes. Also, this is year two no matter how you want to spin it. I thought last year he was a terrible hire. I now know that. I don’t care what he did at Eastern Washington Fresno State or wherever he came from. This is Alabama. It should be obvious. I honestly hope I’m wrong and he proves it, but I doubt he’s able. This team is an embarrassment to the jersey they’re wearing, and that’s on the coaches.

Edit: there’s a line Tony Montana gave in Scarface about what gives orders. We’re missing that.
This is also my opinion. Anyone losing to Vanderbilt that isn’t embarrassed to the point of dedicating their life to making sure that type of loss happens again isn’t fit to be a head coach. To have it happen again, especially when a coach has no doubt he needs to redeem himself, is obviously incompetent or content living off of his buyout. This screams of a head coach assuming his assistants will do what it takes to prepare the team but not realizing they didn’t until right after kickoff. A head coach should not have to be told to verify proper preparation has been made for the next game. Firing him immediately would not be a smart move, but letting him return next year will be an even worse disaster. If Byrne wants to keep his job, his best bet would be to ride DeBoer’s butt until the end of the season and fire him then. Lobbying alumni and boosters for his clown’s buyout will likely be easier than for NIL and guaranteed poor results next year. I have experienced every coaching change at Alabama since Perkins was hired and every new coach has had some unreasonable fans calling for his job after the first bad streak, but this is literally the first time I’ve seen almost unanimous agreement that firing is warranted by fans and sports media alike.

Well, if he would do that, is he willing to go personally apologize to every BOT member and several other donors for the long list of his train wrecks? If he is willing to do that and does it, then we can talk about him as HC.

Kiffin would absolutely walk to Tuscaloosa for the job. We won’t consider him because he hurt too many feelings.

Byrne will leave before he fires CKD. The University has a new president now. So there is a lot of transitioning going on there.

And if you read anything into Byrne's money begging emails, he is gone if the NIL money situation isnt resolved. But generally sounds like someone who doesnt want to deal with NIL portal nuttery anymore.

I agree. Byrne rushed this hire to keep the team together. All for a 9-4 season with multiple losses
unranked teams, and to start the 2nd season with another embarrassing loss to another unranked team.

If things dont drastically change, the football program will lose a lot more than $70 million by waiting years until they can afford it. Thats the pickle we currently find ourselves in. Boosters, fans, corporate money won't keep pumping money into the program for three more years waiting for the buyout to drop.
Buyouts are not paid all at once when a coach gets fired, not sure why people think this, plus if he takes another coaching job, the contract is voided. Example is Jimbo Fisher; he gets paid every year until 2031 unless he gets a coaching job. This is the standard for any coaching contract.

It is not time yet, but if current trend lines continue, Bama will get crushed by Georgia, lose to USCe, Vandy (again), Tennessee (again), LSU, Oklahoma (again), and the Barn. If that happens, and Bama ends up 6-6 and players start to jump ship, presaging a worse disaster in 2026, it might well be time.

On the other hand, if the coaches right the ship, get this team playing Alabama football, and Alabama beats Tennessee, LSU and the Barn, then he will likely survive for another year.

That would be my guess.

They did practices at 7am to avoid the heat? Are you kidding me. That can't be true. Please tell me that isn't true. That's the most idiotic thing this guy could do.

Lets do practices early so the guys don't get too hot....said no coach ever.
I am very close to someone who attended the West Alabama game last Saturday at Legion Field. He spoke to several people there who are in the know. Bama moved practice to 7AM to avoid the heat. This current staff loves to load up and get out of the office and to the lake in the afternoon.

I have heard DeBose say multiple times just how hot it is here in the summer. RIDICULOUS .

I was at the game Saturday and it was typical humid Florida weather, but the entire team was slow and methodical during warmups also. My wife's friends' husbands were joking that our pregame meal was Turkey Spaghetti.

The absence of hotel discipline is stunning to me.
I still remember getting texts and pics from friends that were at the BCS championship game vs LSU at the Super Dome. The night before the game the LSU players wearing their team gear were in the casino at Harrah's drinking and gambling. It definitely showed in their play a few hours later.

My .02...

-I've seen the comparisons to Shula. Shula didn't have .000001% of the talent at his disposal (player or coaching wise) that CKD does. To compare the two is insulting to one's intelligence.

-Byrne, whether he likes it or not, will be tied at the hip to CKD's successes or failures. Overall our athletic programs have not gotten better under Byrne, aside from men's basketball. Gymnastics? Nope. Softball? Nope. Baseball? Still bad. Mens and Women's golf? Worse...

-CKD said in his presser that the guys already showed him how much they want it. I'm sorry but you don't have one meeting, one moment, one practice, etc and show you are committed to being a champion. You show it by doing it over and over and over again.

-As far as replacement's go, give me Coach Gruden and at least I will see a guy as PO as I am when the players are playing like they couldn't give a care in the world. Clapping and loving on these guys doesn't cut it for me. Love on them in the one on one meetings but at some point you have to get into them and hold them accountable. I remember a great coach once saying, "Coach 'em hard and hug 'em later".

-We were so enamored by the "no one left the program in the portal this year" news that was floating around. Maybe no one left because it was cake and ice cream every day at the football facility. I'm a believer that if you are doing it right, it isn't for everyone. The fact that some guys weren't uncomfortable enough to realize they weren't cut out for the standard that CKD and staff was setting tells me that the standard wasn't very high.

-The team and players are a reflection of the coaches. What you demand is what you will get. I didn't see hustle, selflessness, or any of the things that championship teams embody on the field Saturday. I think CKD is a great guy and if I had a youth pastor opening at my local church I would hire him, no questions asked, but as my quote below reads, "Football is a tough game played by tough people", and I'm not so sure just how tough Deboer is...

I should point out that the showing against Michigan and FSU, with tons of time to prepare was also absolutely embarrassing.

You can muster excuses for some of the losses, but he had time in both those situations to make necessary adjustments. Somehow the team looked worse.

For very X amount of time you tolerate a cultural toxin, even after the source is gone I've found it takes at least 2x to expunge its effects. Leadership can determine how long the hangover lasts, so we have to hope CKD is taking the right steps out of our view...
Might be some wisdom here. Bernard & Brailsford (while a small sample size) being our most effective players might indicate the combo of CKD's personality with the leftovers from our past few years is still a hurdle

I will say this about Shula. I don't remember guys loafing around and not getting after people. Someone please send a video of Demeco not playing to win. You're correct. He didn't have the talent or the numbers to compete.

Only embarrassing things going on are this coaching staff and the these players. The culture at Bama under DeBoer is embarrassing.

DeBoer has broken Alabama in 14 games. He's been here not 2 full years and its broken.
