The truth is that it has only been two years since he brought home a national championship win for LSU. I question how good of a coach he really is, but how could you make that call after just two lukewarm seasons?
Good point. I believe it took Tennessee nine years after winning their championship before giving Fulmer the boot. But, LSU fan will never have that much patience. I'd say he has another year of medocre performance before the heat really comes, and it will come because Miles does not have what it takes to be a leading coach in the SEC.

True. And don't forget Larry Coker (Miami's former head) won NC and couple of years later was ousted.

Les, maybe no this year but the heat and pressure will be on next year.

Where are some of the LSU regulars on Tide Fans? :conf2:

I expected they would have come to Miles' defense by now? :p_red:
Visiting when you are not on top isn't as much fun for some people. Unfortunately this is new territory for some of them. After a 5 game winning streak against Bama these last 2 losses have to sting. They were convinced they should have won last year and we had to cheat this year (buy off the refs) and were terribly upset when we didn't agree or offer to forfeit the game to them. Us visiting the boards of those who once thought they would own Bama the rest of their lifetime is no better.

Les will most likely be at LSU again. I hear his buyout is like Charlie Weiss, in the 18Million range. Les is perfect at LSU with his bravado remarks like "Damn Strong", or his "Fing Bama" comment, or another that didn't work out for him "R-Kansas". And to think we make fun of Lane Kiffin;) They had some fun moments bashing Bama while we were on probation I don't feel bad having a bit of fun now.

Remember his "Alabama loses to lots of teams from Louisiana" comment?
Yep we said Les would keep us supplied with many quotes to choose from :)

We are undefeated in regulation.

Let 'er rip.

OSU beat the Sooners twice. Before the third matchup Oklahoma State coach Les Miles said the Sooners were the nation's best team or "so we are told." He also made the comment the day before the game, "Tomorrow, two football teams will meet and one is ranked #1 in the country and the other is a pretty darn good football team. We will play to find out which one's which." OU won 52-9. Let 'er rip. Les did leave OSU with a 2-2 record against the Sooners.

Just heard on Fox sports radio that a cameraman in Baton Rouge has footage of Coach Miles giving the spike signal. He has put his QB/OC under the bus and folks can't wait for his PC tomorrow. They say admit you made a mistake, but lying is a different issue.

This is gonna get good, and the AD at Michigan says RR is staying put.

in a house
What jumps out at me in all this is the communication breakdown. I can't believe that Miles would think that saying he didn't call the spike absolves him of anything. This is a scenario that every team should be prepared for and LSU wasn't. Even if they had called the right play they were unable to get that play to the field and I'm not sure Miles even knew what the call was. That always falls on the head coach. If you run this scenario in practice enough everyone should have a good idea of what's supposed to happen.

I don't agree that Miles is a bad coach, but his tendency to gamble and play by the seat of his pants instead of going with the high percentage calls has always made me think he's a better fit for a team that tends to play the underdog role. His teams have never struck me as being terribly disciplined or consistent and when you gamble enough the house always wins. While I DO think he's a pretty good coach, I don't think he's the best fit for an established program like LSU.

That being said I don't think he's going anywhere.

They should hold his press conference in Tiger Stadium and sell tickets to it.

That stuff is priceless. It's a deadly mixture of Bush-like malapropisms and Kiffin-like unwarranted arrogance. :p_excl:

That's my point.

There have been so many threads here on Tide Fans that have been closed because some of our LSU visitors get bent out of shape when we make uncomplimentary comments about Miles. Don't get me wrong, I like it when rival fans visit Tide Fans and we can have civil debates. When we talk about Miles you can throw civil out the window and the thread generally gets closed because the LSU fans get so uptight.

The blunders Miles has made are not the type of mistakes a football coach at a major university should make. This is undeniable. Even the LSU fans cannot deny this, but up until yesterday a lot of them have.

He may not be a bad coach, but he certainly is not a good coach. I said it two years ago on this forum and I still believe the guy is in over his head. Plus, I have little respect for anyone that finds it necessary to be a blow hard. He fits the mold perfectly. His best days at LSU are behind him.

One of Les Miles quotes is when you have skilled players you have to turn them loose. Les sometimes you have to take control of them too.

The longer Less stays at LSU, the happier I'll be, I'm veeery comfortable with a Miles/Coach Saban match-up year after year. :p_green:
Having spent much time "down there" over the years and listening to the crap from many of their most obnoxious fans, I can't think of a more deserving group for Miles to "lead" (yeah, I'm using that term pretty loosely)...

Hey Bayou, who was the LSU fan that lived here two season ago, that was the backslapper when LSU was on top? He seems to be missing now.

At about the third game last season I told him that I sensed that LSU was on there way down due to intensity and organizational issues. His and many on Tidefan's rebuttal was, "you can't loose with those recruits he's getting". My response was that yes, recruits are about 70% of the puzzle, and the coaching is the other 30%, which is modest towards the coaches in retrospect.

We went on and on for pages, until you, the gentlemen that are, closed the thread.

Do you remember this frequent backslapper from the Shula days up until this season?

Anyone? I want to look that thread up :)
