Not yet, but I'm beginning to wonder. We have MORE talent than any team we've played PERIOD and none of us can figure out exactly what is going on. CNS will always say it's poor execution, which is true. The only thing I feel JM is responsible for is running up the middle TOO many times. When it is getting you nowhere most of the game, you gotta do something else (like last year in the Iron Bowl, when JM called it and CNS called a timeout & changed the play). Too much TIME was wasted doing this yesterday then punting when other plays were working. SOMETIMES you've got to PASS to open up the run..... We are STILL in good hands & I wouldn't trade where we are for something else.

We're still not throwing the ball down field enough to back off the safeties in my opinion, but the main reason we are struggling offensively is line play. Our center and guards got abused multiple times yesterday. Hard to score when you can't block 'em.

I agree 100%. Hard to throw a pass down field when your laying on your back or running for your life.

Worst Play Calling I've Seen in a Long Time

I know folks think our play calling was questionable, but I watched the OU/Texas A&M game and saw three consecutive play calls that were the worst I've seen in a long time. OU, down by 2 TD's, 2nd and goal, no time outs and around 2 minutes left in the game. They run the ball three straight plays (2nd, 3rd, and 4th down), with no way to stop the clock and fail to get in the endzone. I understand it would have taken a miracle for them to pull it out. They would have had to score and recover an onside kick, but that play calling removed any remote chance of that happening.

I give LSU's "D"line kudos. They came in and beat us in the trenches.
So do I. But, unlike what the title of this thread suggests, I don't think CJM schemed poorly against the deficiency. We shortened the routes, and when we threw deep downfield, they were single move, quick developing streak routes. I'll tip my hat to the LSU d-line, but I'm not going to throw Coach McElwain under the bus necause we got whipped in the trenches.

I thought I was posting in a thread about another game.

I'm so confused.:conf2:

It's not that cut and dry. LSU has just as much talent as we do. So does Florida, hell they may even have MORE talent than we do. Georgia is also right there. We weren't as talented as Florida last year for sure. Talent isn't everything.

Offensive play calling was too conservative, too predictable and lacked any creativity. Other teams/coaching staffs have us figured out.
The only thing that's changed from last year to this year are the players. We ran the same offense last year, with the same plays, with the same predictability. No one seems to have complained about last year.:)

No passion! We didnt want it as bad as LSU did! What else is it to say?

MHO!!! to many great players on this team, but no leadership!!!!!!

I hope that next year we see the driver and passion back in our guys, we should be hungry next year!

RTR!
This is the whole theme for 2010. The heart isnt there like it was last year. You can lead a horse to water but you cant make him drink.

We just aren't knocking people back at the LOS. We have great running backs but they need some space too. I saw us try the run up the middle several times yesterday but it never worked - our OL was getting whipped.

As far as throwing downfield, yes, I'd love to see more of that. But without decent protection GMac doesn't have the time to allow those routes to develop.

If this team gets mad, finds some pride, and plays with intensity we'll be fine. It appears to me at this time that the opponent has been hungrier - now with two losses we'll see how we respond.

The same D line that the Barn torched for over 400 yrds on the ground. Let that set in for a moment...

Clearly they fixed their issues, but Auburn's offense and ours are completely different creatures. I give credit to the D-Line of LSU for tightening up like they did.

Last season and last year's play calling have nothing to do with this year's. You are correct in that the only thing that's changed are the players and we are running the same base offense. That's one reason why I said basically that the other defenses have figured us out. They're not just gonna let Mark and Trent run all over them between the tackles the way they were able to last year. Overall offensively, we're not executing as well as last year's team did either. That's why a little more "creativity" and a little less "predictability" in the play calling is in order. A new/unexpected wrinkle or two here and there from time to time wouldn't hurt.

And, no, I don't expect to get an interview to replace CJM as OC any time soon. ;)
