Is Mullen going to join our staff?

I think the SEC championship game and how well the offense does in the playoffs will determine if he stays or leaves. If we continue the offensive production we had in the SEC throughout the playoffs, he will probably get HC'ing opportunities after the season, if he isn't already entertaining any.
I think this could very well be an accurate assessment.

I think the think that changed in the second half is we got less aggressive with the downfield passing. We were still passing but they were safer passes and Georgia was squatting on those routes.

I know it goes against his tendencies, but if we stayed aggressive in the second half like the first half we might've scored 50-60 on them.

I’m not convinced he’s the OC everyone thinks he is. When he’s been good, he’s had very good QBs, like last year. What he did against us this year is nothing, as other teams did similar, and no one is interested in their coordinators. Mullen is vastly overrated imo.

Our less than stellar second-half offense was the combination of several things ...

Georgia played better.
We ran off to a 21-point lead.
Most importantly, we were adjusting on the fly to the loss of our most reliable receiver.

I hope we have the latter problem fixed by Dec. 31 or we may struggle against Cincy's DBs more than we like.
1. Georgia changed their blitzing scheme. We didn't adjust to stop that until well later into 4th quarter. They were sending more people and on edge. Took us 3 straight series to finally adjust.

2. 2nd quarter run was very important and we needed that. I also thought the opening drive of TD helped a lot and killed any hopes. There was one series where we had a chance to go down the field in 3rd, but we messed up on that.

3. Metchie going out wasn't ideal, but we experienced that with Jameson out for 2nd half against Auburn game. So, we shouldn't be adjusting on the fly, given we had some experience dealing with it. Brooks Stepped up against Auburn, Latu, Bilingsley and Bolden stepped up against Georgia. I really think we will see young players stepping up against Cincy.

But I do agree, if we don't fix some of the issues that was there against Auburn and little against Georgia, we'll struggle for a minute or so against Cincy before finally pulling away. We need to have a clean complete game to show that we are peaking at right time.

and would've knocked Georgia out of playoff :)

but I agree. we should've stayed aggressive until late 3rd quarter at least... IMO, we let up the gas little earlier than I would've liked.

However, if we jumped out to commanding lead against Cincy, i expect us to go conservative for the rest of the way no matter what quarter it is.

But, I hope we think we can run on Cincy when we need to kill some clock.

I think OC would be his best place........ and Saban will probably pick him up and rehab him
It's possible but for even this to happen, he's going to need to bring his ego down a notch or two. Mullen I find baffling. There are some guys who are really brilliant and have tremendous egos and it makes sense to a degree, but Mullen I really don't understand why he has such a high opinion of himself as a head coach.

We’ve all heard of the set of coaches that have worked for Saban and wound up coaching a team against him down the road.

There is a subset of coaches that he has rehabbed and helped them further their careers.

one thing I’ve noticed about Saban, if he’s not saying anything positive about someone then he’s not talking at all. I don’t remember him ever with a harsh word for any of his competition.
