I think he has a shot - but they have to beat two out of three (Fla, OM and Bama) and I don't think they will, depending on the extent of Fournette's injury they may lose all three.
I still say TH at Houston, especially if they play Louisville close (or upset them), has the inside track.
LM was mediocre to poor at OSU; this time I think they want someone who knows how to win, even if it's in the AAC. 15-1 aint shabby no matter who you play (and give him some credit for beating Bama while he was OC at OSU), and if his qb doesn't get hurt he could be 16-0.
Ogre is "family", so there's that. He's from LaRose, doesn't get much more "down the bayou" than that.
But IMO they want somebody who has proven they can win - and beat Bama.

IMHO, LSU does not want its next coach to be Orgeron. But, if his team is impressive (I'm not going to label a record or a certain win), then we may be forced to. The deal is, he has to let his people do their jobs. LSU has very, very good assistants. LSU pays assistants very well. I believe we have the highest paid staff minus the head coach in CFB. If ogre is the motivator and recruiter and hands off with overall game planning, maybe that formula could work? I have my doubts, I still think you need the brains at the top.

A couple of things I have learned about Coach O - he wants this badly and will work his tail off. He may even try to lure LK over here if his offers are not great. Also, He is not the coach who was a train wreck at Ole Miss.

i still I'll believe we will go after Herman.

I think he has a good shot at it to be honest. If he shows a willingness to open the offense up and they can't get Tom Herman or another BIG TIME coach then they might not have a choice. He can win some games for them and be a short term bridge until the homerun coach they want becomes available.

I like the ogre, and I would kinda like to see him get a big time coaching job, but not on our behalf ;).

It will depend on how the team progresses and if the coaches at the top of their list say no. If he has a very good recruiting class lockrd up, has won all the games he's supposed to, I think he has a chance to get a 3 year contract.
It would mean LSU missed out on their top choice. That could easily happen. He's gotta beat everyone he plays except us, and that could sway things in his favor.

Just food for thought...

Jimbo has already lost 2 games, and SHOULD have lost a third.

He still has to play Miami, Clemson, and Florida...that's probably 2-3 more losses.

Might be a good chance for him to get out while he can from Tallahassee.

Before last night I would've said No Way, but it seems like most LSU fans are coming to his defense. Yeah I know its one game, and it was Missouri, but I think in a way Orgeron might be the perfect match for LSU. He understands the culture, he is a great recruiter, he has the passion, and he seems to have learned from his mistakes at Ole Miss.
Not flaming you cause I know you have read the same things I have. He is a great recruiter. Where do they get that from? When he was at Ole Miss with Nutt, or Someone, I looked up those years and the recruiting at Ole Miss was nothing special. I wonder why they say that and where is the evidence.

For ole miss I think it was pretty good but not great by our standards. It really makes you to seriously doubt Freeze's recruiting being legal. Kiffin and O did a pretty good job recruiting at Tennessee and USC considering both program's disadvantages. Convincing some 5 star to go to Oxford once in 20 years is an accomplishment.

Maybe "great" maybe is giving him too much credit without clarification. I think outside his comfort zone in terms of geography (Louisiana coast) he is just above average. I think Kiffin mixed with o was what boosted Tennessee for that 1 year, but neither just by themselves could've done it. I think LSU is the place O could really shine more than he does already ( I'm not talking about on the field, I'm talking about leaving the cupboard full of instate talent).

But 2 things can't be said about the ogre and they are 1) he doesn't give it his all and 2) He isn't passionate about what he does. I think he might be more dangerous than miles was the past 3 years in recruiting and motivating LSU. And it's worth noting that from a lot of accounts that he has changed philosophy and is letting assistants give solid input.

But I'm in the camp that I think it's more of who he beats than how many. I don't know if he needs to win 3/4 of the remaining big games or if it is written in stone that he is not going to be the head coach. I just thought it was an interesting question because I generally like orgeron and what everyone thought of his chances

The only scenario that lands him the LSU job is one we really don't want to see happen, because it would involve beating Alabama. That's the goal that LSU has set for themselves, and they'll fire anyone who doesn't do it. The flip side of that is it would become hard not to hire someone that does.
