I think we might be. I know we have had some "signature" wins(Charlotte this year and Stanford last season), but i don't think this team is a top 15, maybe not even top 20, team at this point. I know we beat State pretty bad several weeks back, but they were wounded. We got blown out at Florida, and I never really felt like we were in the Wisconsin game. Before you guys flame me, I am not saying we have a BAD team. I just don't think we are a GREAT team and it seems to me we are not aggressive enough on defense. Any thoughts??

We're just not very deep, and Shelton has been missing from the court the past week or two.

We are a good team not great. We are not overated. We have lingered in the 15-20 range all year and I think that is where we should be. Losing a few in a row happens all the time in college basketball to good teams. Look at Kansas-they are on a 3 game losing streak. Duke lost 3 out of 4 on the road recently. It happens. We are still in great shape. We will be in the NCAA tournament and if we go deep like last year, nobody will care about late February losses to LSU & Kentucky. This loss hurts but we can still have a very good season.

Good post. When the tournament begins, the records reset to 0-0 for every team. And, Alabama is good enough to beat any team on a neutral court on any given night.

This afternoon was tough to take, but Kentucky is Kentucky. Even when they aren't as talented as usual, they just know how to win. It makes me think of the way Alabama was in football under Coach Bryant and Coach Stallings.

And very few teams have the ability to play 10 good, consistent players during a game, and not see a sufficient drop in production & wear a team down like UK does.

And let's be honest here

I really think we did play one of our better games of the year yesterday. UK was the 1st team all year to shoot over 50% for a game against us. If we had played this wiell against Wisconsin, Washington, LSU & Vandy, we would have won those games.

I don't think we're overrated, just not a top 10 team & not a bubble team. Somewhere in the middle around that #15-20 range is where we deserve to be.

The thing that kills this team this year is:

1. No depth. Let's face it, this team is basically playing with 7 players. That hurts and there IS a drop off in talent in the 2 non starters that play. I think Felix could be a very good player with some experience but he's pretty raw.

2. This team seems very erratic in shooting. They're either white hot or ice cold and can't buy a basket. There doesn't seem to be much in between.

3. At times, this team seems emotionally flat. You simply cannot do this and expect to win. I thought that was what REALLY hurt Bama early on in the LSU game. They looked like they were just going through the motions for the first 10 minutes.

4. Alabama desperately needs a good, dominant big man. I'd have to say Antonion McDyess was the last good big man that Bama had. Since then, they've been pretty average. I know good big men don't grow on trees but Gottfried seems to do a good job landing the other prospects but for whatever reason, he can't seem to get a really good big man.

Well...

what you're seeing as being flat emotionally has a lot to do with the fatigue that goes along with the short bench. After all, they're only carrying a full load and practicing and traveling and playing two games a week. Right? Anyone should be able to do that standing on their heads. On the big man, you sure you want to tell Erwin Dudley that to his face?

Yeah, he was only like SEC PLAYER OF THE YEAR (and yes, I am shouting at the screen! LOL)

Not that bad.....

We played the #5 team in the country and they shot a record % from 3 point land (many were NBA 3s) and still we were within 3 point at the 1 minute mark.

Could we have played better.... yes

could KY have played better.... .probably no.....

I think we have a pretty good team if we can keep our spirits up after the last two games.....

Make no mistake, Chuck D is a dominant big man. UK rotated 4 big men on him that took him out of the game. JD was never a factor. And CD is an excellent defender. He had to play smart when JD got in foul trouble, which was at the five minute mark in the first half.

When UK shut him down in the 2nd half, our shooters did not respond.

Yeah, I think we can take a little bit of confidence from a game that required a record performance from a UK team to beat us, by not a large margin. we've already discussed why they were able to have such a performance, but there are still a lot of positives from that game.

Earl, I just don't think that the excuse about why

the team looked flat vs LSU flies. The problem with that line of reasoning is that OTHER teams are also in the exact same predicament in regard to the schedule, academics, class schedule, etc.

Also, I admire Dudley and thought he was a good player but let's be honest here, he was a PF that played center or played like a center. Perhaps I should have been more clear, I'd like to see Bama sign a dominant TRUE center rather than have a a guy that is really a PF playing center.

OK, you meant center. You only mentioned big man before, which does apply to Dudley. Dudley played more like a center than McDyess.

Fact is Bama has signed very few true centers over the 20 years. They have played more athletic big forwards at center.

Roy Rogers was well above average with his defense and rebounding his last 2 seasons. He had double digits blocks in several games. He was a pretty good scorer his last season as well.

As others have mentioned, Dudley was pretty good as well.

I haven't seen Hendrix play yet, but I did see him walking to the game on Sat. He definitely has size, and if he'll get in and mix it up, then we'll have our size on the inside that we've been missing since Dudley graduated.
