In the Tennessean this morning. Looks like UT has their bead on Butch Davis. He has said publically that he is not interested, but we know what that means. IMO if they get him it puts them on equal footing with UGA and UF in terms of coaching. I would prefer he stay at UNC but money and ego can do strange things. If it happens the SEC gets even more competitive.

My money is on Butch going to Noter Dang. The Gold Domers are going to get someone who is proven and Mr Davis has a Ring. Plus Butch is going to only leave if he can go somewhere his talent can be used.

I've heard media folks say that Butch won't leave UNC, but all you have to do is look at Bear Bryant to see how a football guy fares at a basketball school.

At a Kentucky athletic banquet celebrating conference titles in football and basketball, Bear was given a cigarette liter and Rupp got a new car!

Actually he doesn't have a ring, not as a HC ayway. He left before the U won their last one, Larry Coker reaped the rewards of BD's hard work.

Personally I don't think Davis is going anywhere unless the money just gets ridiculous, he has a pretty sweet gig at NC. Soft conference with a pretty easy path to a BCS bowl and the expectations aren't as suffocatiing as in the SEC. Let's face it, the SEC is a shark tank and there's always blood in the water, Davis had some sort of anxiety problems a while back, why would he want to punish himself?

I agree. I'd be surprised if Davis wants to swim in these waters.

Davis would be a great hire for them, but like others have stated, I'm not sure he'd leave the ACC for the SEC. They pay him well, he's proved he can recruit good talent there and can compete for conf. champ. every year once he gets things going. It will not be that easy in the SEC.
At Miami, he was in a hotbed of recruits, not so at UT.
But IF he's got mettle enough to go head to head in recruiting against the best in Meyer, Saban, Miles, Spurrier, Richt, and Petrino every year, and face a tough conference team every other week, then he'll take it, because UT can pay him well.
He is a good coach, but I'm not sure he's as passionate about it as Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, or Les Miles, who are driven and absolutely thrive on the thrill of competition.

Exactly right.
I believe Butch had cancer a couple of years back.
He has positioned himself to be king of the hill in the ACC. Why fight year after year with the likes of Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and LSU for a share of the glory. It makes no sense.

Before too many of you put your foot all the way in your mouth, let me remind you that this coach would have been BAMA's HC if it was open at the time. He has no problem with the SEC, and please-TN can recruit.

You *might* wanna read up a bit more about that situation - then you'll know why he wasn't even considered post-Shula...

Well, if being second banana gets to him then watch out......

Nearly three-quarters of the unsold tickets come from a 4,000-seat block set aside for the visiting team. North Carolina has accounted for approximately 1,100 tickets, which is less than the 1,200 both N.C. State and Wake Forest sold for their games last month.

An educated guess as to why sales would be so tepid for fans of a 7-2 team enjoying its best season in a decade? Well, the top-ranked Carolina basketball team opens its season Saturday at 4 p.m., meeting Penn in the Dean Dome.

Yeah, they definitely wanted to talk to Gruden, but no soap. Davis is now their guy. I look for him to talk to them just enough to squeeze some more money out of UNC. I agree that their third choice will be Muschamp and they'll probably get him.

.....Or maybe this guy. Lovie was an assistant back in early-mid nineties at ut. Could be on the hot seat in Chitown if he misses the playoffs.

Then let me put mine in all the way up to my kneecap. Davis was our hire after DuBose but he backed out of the deal at the final hour. Butch was never considered again, never. The job came open 4 more times (Fran, Price, Shula & Saban) and his phone was silent for all of them.
