Part 1

“Which is perfectly fine and acceptable - but Fetterman is right - there are those who so hate trump that they've been positively gloating over the idea that the bombing was a failure”

Yeah but when the administration makes a whole spectacle about “totally obliterating” a site hours after it happens with zero data to go off of, and then 5 days afterwards gives a press conference in response to a leaked intel report that suggests that it may have not been what the administration reported. Then at the press conference tells Americans to “wait for the intel to come out” after not doing it themselves, and then boldly saying that anyone who is reporting less rosey reports is disrespecting our troops. I like Fetterman and agree that some are gloating on the potential failure to achieve the full strategic goal of the operation because it is Trump, but Trump and Hegesth calling the press “unpatriotic” and “hating the troops” then saying the reporter who released the story should be fired is far more alarming than an anti trumper hoping Trump doesnt get a positive press parade.

Everytime someone starts to say “the Bible says..” im like “here we go…”
If it's a theological debate, such things are appropriate. Two people can argue the merits of dispensationalism and this discussion would absolutely require appeal to scripture. (It would also belong in the Church Thread.) However, I'm like you: when the subject of government or social issues bend in that direction, I'm usually first in line to bounce out.

Well there is a difference between “my interpretation of the Bible is” and “the Bible says”. The latter usually leads to something resembling something not far off from the jihadists that are constantly complained about I almost treat it like i treat some conspiracy theorists… go crazier with it because you aren’t going to convince anyone that they are wrong in crazy beliefs.

CT: The moon landing is fake and was done in a basement in order to give the government more control of us.

ME: Wait… you still believe in the moon?

Go big or go home, Bro. In the conspiracy olympics, nothing is out of bounds.

One thing I have learned is that people will use the Bible to justify literally anything. Yes, it always relies on tortured exegesis, but that doesn't seem to matter to a surprisingly large number of people. As long as our preexisting narratives are being reinforced, we seem to be fine with it. (And by "we" I mean society in general, not you and me specifically.)

You know I always thought conspiracy theorists were a small minority of the country that were perfectly represented by Dale Gribble on King of the Hill. But when I got out of the military and came back home I have tons of crazy people asking me crazy stuff. Like “does the military really make you gay with the water in basic training” or “do the shots they give you have chips in them to force you to turn on your fellow countrymen”.

I swear social media was the best thing for conspiracy theorists and the absolute worst thing for everyone else. I literally have a guy trying to get me on a podcast with him to discuss how public education is indoctrinating children to serve the government and health organizations through constant brainwashing. Keep in mind this guy is forcing his wife with a high risk pregnancy to home birth their 3rd or 4th child since he has finally been “enlightened” enough to do medical procedures.

I think the main problem with religion is that many seek to use it as justification for irrational and immoral actions. The movie “the book of Eli” pretty much drives this point home when there are only two people in the world that can still read and one has a bible. The other one wants to steal the Bible in order to control a town and bend them to their will.

I think the Bible is essential as a Christian as the Constitution is for a citizen of the United States. But too often we want both want them to say what we want instead of being truthful in what they actually say or admitting that they are not always clear in their application to the modern world.

So let me get this straight. The Iranians are using the Bible to justify their Islamic convictions to bomb Israel to protect the US because it’s an Allah-given mandate. Got it 😜

Wait, they stopped doing this?
No, and that’s not even their master plan with it. They even combined our DNA with Seals to lose our hair and develop skin strong enough to brave the Canadian and Russian cold when we invade. The gay serum in the water was just so we didn’t repopulate the countries we invaded.

Thank king of the hill for that joke

I know people in real life who make Dale Gribble sound positively sane. (Interestingly enough, it seems to be a 50/50 split between the left and right. Modern stereotyping would have us believe that they're all MAGA bunkers, but that just isn't true.)

Well much of the anti vax and pseudoscience stuff came from left coast hippies. It really wasn’t until COVID where they started buying into it.
