Re: It's hittinng the fan in Knoxville

Of course none of us know how much of this is true. Even as a UT fan I must say, typically where there is smoke there is some kind of fire. I just can't see all of this being false but would love to know how much of it IS true.
IF the part about Dooley shrugging stuff off is true, Dave Hart should have a nice sit down with him. Seems like his momma takes less for Tennessee fans and radio hosts than Dooley takes from his players.

Looks to me like the Derek Dooley experiment is over. I've thought all along that Dave Hart would give him at least one more year before pulling the plug, but now I'm not so sure.

Would Hart want to get Dooley to make Kirby his DC with the thought (obviously not telling Dooley) to make Kirby HC next year?

Re: It's hittinng the fan in Knoxville

I can't imagine any realistic scenario where CDD gets fired after this season - he gets at least one more year. UT already looks like a program devoid of leadership, and three new coaches in four years wouldn't attract much in the way of top shelf talent.

I mean, they hired CDD last time - it's not like the job is more attractive now than it was when they had to resort to him in the first place...

A general comment about the originator of the story.....

I lived in Knoxville for eight years. I was there for all the Peyton years and the seven game losing streak to the Vols.

While there, I had the oppotunity to listen to Tony Basillio's talk show on the radio. He appeared on a number of differant stations, his ratings generally lagging behind the one on the main talk station, the one that carried UT games, one hosted by current titans play by play man, Mike Keith.

Keith had a very good show. Basillio was something of a Jim Rome wannabe. He catered to the lowest common denominator of fans. It was a very low brow show and he liked to stir the pot by removing comments from his rear end.

I'm not saying he's lying about this story, but he likes to cause trouble and make a name for himself.

Considering that if they had beaten Kentucky they'd have gone to the Birmingham Bowl, then Bray was correct.

I agree about Dooley being their Shula. My only regret is he didn't get the job at API. (For which he was mentioned).

I'll not shed a tear for the Vol Nation. The "good" fans, I do feel their pain. But for all those Tennessee fans who reveled in our undoing, and were such horrible winners throughout the 7 year streak they had, I hope that program wanders in the college football desert for years to come.

Re: It's hittinng the fan in Knoxville

I don't think our locker room ever got to this point under shula but man there are some eerily similar circumstances and actions though.
Personally, the comparisons to Shula are a little tiring. Shula wasn't a great head coach, but he also wasn't getting completely blown out and embarrassed in games like Dooley is, and I never saw Mike Shula celebrate National Championship style after a win over lowly Vandy. Shula guided us through some tough years when we were limited by Scholarships, something UT hasn't had to deal with. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad Shula is not our head coach, but he was a class act and should be given more appreciation than what he's gotten. Dooley seems to be a good guy that inherited a complete mess, which truly was started by Fulmer. The blame for what UT is going through right now mostly lays at Fulmer's feet, but I'm not sure Dooley is capable of righting the ship either.

Quit being logical and let me enjoy this.
Funny I had the same thought. Things have obviously gone from bad to worse. I always said not to day things cannot get worse because they can. Who really would want this job now? It will take some major bucks to fix this problem.

Re: It's hittinng the fan in Knoxville

I got suspended here (by Bayou RIP) for saying Shula had to invoke discilplin after Juwaun Simpson got arrested and had the 'ice cream' quote. Dark times. This does sound similar.
As I was reading through the posts in this thread, that situation at Bama was the first thing that popped into my head. The second was the way the WR Keith Brown treated the trainers when they came out on the field when he was injured during a game. Basically cussed them for trying to assess his injury. The Brown incident may have been in Coach Saban's first year, but I can't remember. Glad Coach has instilled some discipline that was lacking under Shula. Good luck to Dooley getting the Vols under control. This being his second year and still having these type of problems does not bode well. RTR

To me this sounds more like Dubose's last year than Shula's tenure.

They absolutely need to hit rock(y-top) bottom. Karma in the truest sense. :biggrin2:

Re: It's hittinng the fan in Knoxville

Why all the sympathy for Tennessee in this thread? You think they had sympathy for us when the fat man helped get us on probation?
The Shula Years? UMMMMMM..I dont think so.

The only thing that could make it better is the barn joining them in their misery. When an SEC team plays OOC or in bowl I pull for the SEC because it helps Bama but when it comes to the barn and viles some things are better left unsaid.

If true about Tyler Bray running his trap to the team, he would lose his scholarship yesterday. You got to nip it in the bud. Then I would look each player dead in the eye and ask each one of them, "do you have anything you would like to say to me or the team". If I had to run half the team off THEIR WOULD BE DISCIPLINE. We might not win a game next year but we would be the most disciplined team in the nation.
