The first thing I thought of when when I saw this thread was Derrick's big 'ol smile . One of the best football players of all time and an even better person . I'll always remember that smile . So sad ! :(

I did not wear a seatbelt until the day I heard DT had passed and he was not wearing a seatbelt. I have worn a seatbelt everyday since. He was the most dominating pass rusher in the history of college football (had 27 sacks his Sr year; 52 career) and was one of the better NLF pass rushers (had 7 sacks in one game). You are missed DT and RIP!!!!

My favorite Bama player of all time
I remember that day vividly --- was so sad that it happened. We thought he was on the road to recovery after the accident.

I remember the story of the kid he befriended in Oklahoma who had Cancer. The kid was burried in Derrick's Pro Bowl jersey -- the only Pro Bowl Jersey he gave away -- I will try to find the link to the story -- any DT fan should read it.

RIP Derrick - please tell my Dad that we miss him ;)

I got to see him play many times during his UA career. Most memorable day was his game against Penn State at Legion Field. I think he had six or eight sacks that day. I'd bet the PSU qb still wakes up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat... looking for where DT is lined up. He was a special player, no doubt.
Tony Sacca. I believe Sacca was a true freshman and had been the #1 recruit in the nation.
