Jalen Hurts to wear an Alabama/Oklahoma helmet for Senior Bowl

  • Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family from all of your fellow TideFans! Be safe and be blessed!
Still enough to win without throwing pick 6s.
Yeah, you can't talk about that game without talking about those two plays. But we have no idea what Jalen could have done against that defense. We certainly have no reason to think he would have led the team to more than 28 points.

Realistically, if Jalen is your starter all year then I think that your defense would have been much better - probably good enough to beat Auburn. But with Tua the starter until his injuries, your defense would still have been a mess and you likely still miss the playoffs.

26-2 at Bama with a NC under his belt.
Takes OU to the final 4 in football in one season and threw for a lot of yards.
Class guy.
Not particularly a fan of this idea because I am afraid it COULD become a trend.

Probably not - No way you beat LSU with Jalen (he tried that with OU's offense and only scored 28 points) and Auburn has figured out how to stop him. More importantly, Auburn has the defensive personnel to stop him.

Jalen is a very limited QB. Love him and respect him, but that doesn't change the reality.

To be fair, OU's Defense is not nearly as good as ours...

I guess I'll be the sole dissenter but I'm not a fan of this. JH chose OU, so he should wear OU.

I'm kind of surprised you feel this way. You've said in the past more than once that Jalen is your #1 Favorite Alabama player of all time and that's he such a good role model that any parent would be thrilled to have a child turn out like him.

He didn't leave on bad terms when he could have. He stayed all through 2018 when he could have bolted after 4 games like Kelly Bryant did at Clemson...... he was a team player and was always ready to have his number called as the backup and led the team to a Career High-point comeback win in the 2018 SECCG.

Most of us cheered on his individual success this year in spite of not liking Oklahoma and Jalen in turn still supported Alabama throughout the season.... examples like lighting up a cigar after beating Tennessee and interacting with current players giving congratulations.

He's a Bama man and always will be. He has a degree and gave 3+ years to the Football program.

What's really the harm in him paying Homage to Alabama here?

You're certainly entitled to feel how you feel about it but it just seems in conflict with your past views.

Aye, that's not changed - I just feel he needs to pick on or the other. He chose to go to OU, wear OU. It's not a slap in the face of Bama, but this seems a bit too contrived for me.

Besides, Bama sharing a helmet with that paperclip logo is nasty. :)

Jalen is limited, yes (still wonder how much missing his redshirt season and being thrown to the wolves influenced that), but he's still very capable. I don't think you can look at a guy who threw for 3,800 yards and 32 TDs and dismiss him entirely. Furthermore, he's gone from never gonna play in the NFL to projected to go in the first half of the draft. So he has his flaws, but the upside is there to.

The thing that became apparent to me with Oklahoma is while there was a sign of early season development (this is a trend with Jalen) there wasn't much during the season. Part of that is Oklahoma really ended up not complimenting him very well. They had no running game and a defense that looked like garbage as the season progressed. So, he was out there literally trying to do it on his own.

I'm not exaggerating, he wasn't just their top rusher, he accounted for over half of their rushing TDs. Part of that is on Jalen, but I really hoped Oklahoma would ease some of the pressure but a lot of the games I watched was just Jalen out there trying to beat the other team. Usually it worked, sometimes it didn't.

In terms of what would have happened at Alabama, if Alabama used him well, I do think Alabama makes the playoffs. Do they lose to LSU? Probably, but it should have been a more old school Alabama approach. More of a running game, let Najee do his thing. Oklahoma helped Hurts passing numbers, but they also put too much on his shoulders. If you're asking your QB to produce 5,000 yards and 50 TDs you might be asking a bit much...

Me thinks this is MORE about the charity auction than anything else. Sooner and Tide faithful bidding against each other will probably garner the most money in the bidding, just saying that some things have more meaning than personal loyalty !
