I can just see NIck's first press conference. I think it goes something like this:

Hello, I'm Nick Saban and I'm the new Commish of Men's College Football.

Rule #1, no sissies in this league, so Tennessee....out, gone, buried...

Rule #2, Everything in Texas is bigger.....like cheaters. Texas.....gone!

Rule#3, Well, thats enough for today. See you next week!!!

I think that he has the respect of many coaches in the sport, however, Buzzard is right. The laws support much of what is going on. If Saban was appointed as commissioner, maybe he could make some headway at a congressional hearing to get some things passed that might help.

Unfortunately the same thing would stand in Sabans way that currently stands in the NCAA's way, and that's the law. Pandora's box is open, the players have full control and the law is on their side. They're not going to agree to anything less than what they currently have.
Law doesn't work against the NFL, with proper rules it wouldn't work against CFB.

I’ve really started to struggle with how all this mess is currently going on. The NCAA is made up of member institutions who make up the rules. I really haven’t heard anyone in the NCAA actually come out FOR this mess that we currently have. So how has the NCAA allowed this garbage to continue. They have the ability to set the rules so that NIL is what it was meant to be. A popular player being able to cash in on advertising revenue for putting their mug on a TV ad and the like, not pay me to play.

He could make some real change but the NCAA would have to give him some real power, which they would never do. But it would be fireworks going off in those meeting rooms when Nick schools those pointy headed pencil pushers about how to run football. Man, I would love to see that.

It's not really a good comparison though. The NFL is a business entity. College football is "amateur sports", which the SCOTUS basically said is illegal. There are no rules because there cannot be. For the record, I agree with you that there SHOULD be rules.

Saban retired because of the mess in college football so I doubt he'd be interested in trying to clean it up.
I think he would be interested. He is the one that brought it up years ago. But the position would have to come with real power...like, NCAA Commissioner, or he would balk.

There CAN be rules - that's the point. It will simply mean completely removing the faux-amateur status we pretend still exists.

That's the only solution at this point, thanks to the NCAA idiots.
Bingo. I’ve said for years that the major conferences should break away and make their own leagues under a different classification, and let anyone stupid enough to go to the has beens negotiate any price they wish while there are set rules about financials in the big boy leagues

The core problem in all of this was that the NCAA was too focused on enriching themselves to take the ruling of the Obannon case seriously. There was plenty of time to address this but they chose not to.

Exactly. Eventually the athletic directors will pull their heads outta you know where and make them employees. Then they will have the leverage and can stop the bleeding so to say

Players are making millions yes but the big programs are making hundreds of millions. His greed your greed their greed our greed. There’s no movement bc everyone wants more for them and the bottom line equates quality of product for them. No one cares about the sport as long as they can clear their budgetary goals etc

Part of me agrees but I also think that his experience and love of the game (along with his ego) would love to etch his name further in CFB stone.
Just one guy, but I have absolutely no idea if he would be amenable. I can see reasons why he might and reasons why he wouldn’t. I would, however, most assuredly want to be a fly on the wall if/ when he and Miss Terri discuss it !
