As the title says, JW is among 5 players suspended (3 players are suspended through the conclusion of the 2023 season) for Gambling Policy Violations.
SMH.
SMH.
Apparently, they don't either...What in the world are these guys thinking. Potentially losing hundreds of thousands of dollars by being suspended for games or the entire season. I don't get it.
I feel like this is the important part here. I know that the rules are the rules, but this is kind of over the top...

"According to league policy, NFL players and personnel cannot bet on NFL games, the draft or any league-related activities under any circumstances. They also cannot place any bets while at a team facility or on team-related travel.
Williams' representation, Alliance Sports, released a statement of apology on behalf of the wide receiver.
"Jameson takes full responsibility for his actions and is very apologetic to the NFL, his teammates and the fans and city of Detroit," Alliance Sports said. "However, it is important to note that Jameson's violation was not for betting on football but rather due to a technical rule regarding the actual location in which the online bet was placed -- and which would otherwise be allowed by the NFL outside of the club's facility. "
It already states team travel. So, in theory you can not go to a casino while in Vegas to gamble on ANYTHING. I would also assume that means no video poker, horse racing, or anything that doesn’t pertain to football. They need to update the rules as it says pertaining in any gambling on team property which could include team flights. Gambling could be playing fantasy baseball for pay and changing your lineup on the team flight or how about an Alabama and Auburn guy making a friendly wager on the Iron Bowl coming up.
$6.877 MILLION to be exact, GOT-TOE-MIGHTY!!!!!I said hundreds of thousand of dollars lost. It is actually in the millions. Amazing.

I believe this will be a big emphasis on the next collective bargaining agreement. I can definitely see the NFLPA addressing the all encompassing rule. IMO, I agree that they should not be able to bet on any form of football. I wouldn't want them to impact the integrity of any level of football, and they do have the connections to do so. I also believe they will address a more structured punishment tier.Regardless of how "stupid" the rule is, gambling is a huge point of emphasis with the NFL and the most recent example was only a year ago. So in knowing that, his agent of all people should have made it a point Jamo FULLY UNDERSTOOD this. If his agent did do this, and Jamo did it anyway, then the young man has now learned how expensive ignoring workplace rules and policies can be. If not, then he needs to get a new agent.
I would be surprised if this gets changed. My guess is, one of the reasons for it being all-encompassing is to not have to spend time deciphering whether the bet was on football or not. The easiest thing to do is just make all betting on NFL facilities illegal. Changing it would simply put more work on the NFL teams and they aren't in the business of adding more work to their organizations.I believe this will be a big emphasis on the next collective bargaining agreement. I disagree, respectfully. That said, an NFL player gambling on a sport unrelated to the NFL should not be a violation of any rule.
