January's Official Visitors: Tim Hawthorne cancels his Alabama official visit

Right now per scout.com Alabama has only one player scheduled to visit both on Jan. 13th weekend and Jan. 20th weekend. Is this typical since it's still a month away? Just seems strange.

Also, Tim Hawthorne doesn't have us as a visit and Andre Smith might not as we are one of three left for one weekend (UT and AU are the others per scout). Thoughts on this??? Is it out of the norm for a prospect to sign with a school that he doesn't give an official visit to?

I know with Andre that Coach Shula has been recruiting him hard, and I'm sure he has been to his house. Why doesn't he at least come for an official?

don't go by that list....the 13th should be a pretty big weekend.

Jan. 13
Kentrell Lockett
Corderick Govan
Allen Walker
Jake Jones
Markeith Summers

this list should grow some....rumor is that Hawthorne will visit then, too......Byrd is scheduled on the 20th.

As we've posted several times, Smith may not official to Bama. We hope he does to eliminate other schools. He has taken numerous unofficials though.

Hawthorn has his five scheduled and Bama is not one of them. He did attend camp at Bama. Is that a bad sign for Bama? I don't know.

AS I can see taking a visit to UF. I don't think he will take an official visit to Bama or the Barn. I believe he visited unofficialy at both. Again, is that a bad sign for Bama or is he getting the most free travel for his five official visits.

Hawthorne does not have his five officials already scheduled. He has three scheduled and doesn't know where he will take the others, but I think that Bama will ultimately get one, probably either the 20th or 27th.

Ping does Scout.com have it wrong. It shows him already have taken 4 visits (UF, UGa, Barn, and USCar) with one scheduled for UL?

Tim Hawthorne has cancelled his Bama official visit and scheduled USC, UF, and UL. He said he is evaluating QBs and that Smelley and Brohm are two of his favorites. This is bad news for Bama even though he is going to make an unofficial visit to Alabama January 6 with his parents. He says that Bama, LSU, and Tennessee are still "in it." With his earlier comments that his recruitment will be wilder than Fred Rouse's I am really wondering about this guy.

1/13 - South Carolina (Chris Smelley
1-20 - Florida (Tim Tebow)
1-27 - Louisville (Brian Brohm)

Here is the complete Bama official visit list. The link is at the bottom of this post.

1-13 - Allen Walker
1-13 - Preston Dial (Bama commit)
1-13 - Kentrell Lockett
1-13 - Anthony Dixon
1-13 - David Ross (Bama commit)
1-13 - Andy Davis (Bama commit)
1-13 - Corderick Govan
1-13 - Brian Motley (Bama commit)
1-13 - Jake Jones

1-20 - Roshaad Byrd

1/27 - Marcus Tillman (LSU commit - now soft verbal) is visiting. This is a recent development.

If your familiar with Bama already you can schedule your 5 officials elsewhere and really get 6 all togather. As many games as I went to growing up I for one would have not needed a visit to Bama, I'd just visit a few other places just to make it seem like I actually thought about it and of course to have fun, then I'd choose Bama of course. Playing anywhere else would be like dating the ugly chick nobody else wanted.

As for Hawthorne, If he's looking for a hot snot "name" at quarterback then we lost him when we lost Tebow. Watch John P Wilson become our first Highsman winner and Tebow become the next Vince Sutton.

Yeah, I imagine Hawthorne will go elsewhere... He has stated that he wants to play with a big-time QB, a Mustain commitment might sway him back our way, but, if that doesn't happen, I think he is probably gone.

On the positive side, with all of the Tide's young receivers, Hawthorne isn't really all that necessary anyway.

I agree there, and it may sway others our way (Andre Smith), but that may be the only way Hawthorne ends up here, judging his comments. One of his prerequisites seems to be coming in with a high-profile QB.

And our current WR commits aren't slouches themselves (Stover, McCoy, possibly Alexander) and Calhoun is still out there.

From the outside looking in, it is hard to tell what the kids are thinking since they are not taking officials. Both Smith and Hawthorne seem to not be taking officials, but have been to UA's campus many times. Some kids like the "glamour" of being pampered, others like getting out of the ol' neighborhood and seeing what's out there, others are actually looking at the academic offerings, others are trying to get a gauge of what the "college life" will be like, others have a predefined list in their heads/hearts and would simply like to eliminate possible candidates for their signature. I think that last one is a distinct possibility in the ongoing saga pertaining to Andre Smith and Tim Hawthorne. These guys may just be seeing what else is out there to make sure their decision that will be swallowing up 5 of their lives will be worthwhile and not regrettable. Who knows? Both of their hearts may be leaning to Bama, but they want to ride it out. But I hope Hawthorne's recruitment is like Rouse's in "dizziness factor" only. Surely he's not another Rouse (attitude).

I have given up on Hawthorne to Bama, especially since he cancelled his official visit. It looks like he will go to either UGA, AU, USC, or UL to me. I doubt he would go to UF even with him taking an official there. He would have way more competition at the WR position than he would probably want. UF will most likely sign the best WR class in the country this year.

With Nikita Stover and Mike McCoy coming in to go along with the receivers Bama already has Hawthorne might be thinking he should go elsewhere for a better chance at playing time. I hope I am wrong but it sure looks like he has dropped Bama from serious consideration.

He may not come to Bama, but I doubt Hawthorne thinks he couldn't compete for playing time. It's been said many times before, Hawthorne wants to play with a big name QB, and right now, Alabama hasn't got one.

It shuoldn't make a difference

If you are as good of a reciever as you are cracked up to be then you shouldn't worry about a high profile quaterback. Roll Tide Everyone !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not on paper we don't. But I feel very confident in the guys Shula has brought in (Barnes, JPW and if given a chance JJ). I've heard the word describing JPW on this board as "savvy" and just watching him in his limited playing time he no doubt has the physical skills to be a top SEC qb. He didn't play enough to get a feel or read on his mental skills of the game but from what I witnessed he's got the physical skills.

Hawthorne camped at UA I believe + unofficials + living in the state. So as some have said, maybe he's just taking some free vacations. I don't think UA is out of it yet.

I like our quarterbacks too. I just don't know that Hawthorne does.
