Jeremy Pruitt seeks court order against NCAA to allow hire by FBS school

While I loved the Alabama defense while he was D Coordinator here, I just don’t think that would be a good hire anymore or a good fit. Saban could manage big personalities and egos like that, but I’m not sure that is DeBoer’s style. DeBoer seems to be more of a “we’re all bros” kind of leader, which is fine as long as somebody doesn’t come in trying to be the big guy, which I could definitely see Pruitt doing. Long story short, while I have no doubt of Pruitt’s D skills, I think he would be a toxic hire for this team and this staff.

I think Pruitt knows Defense and would be a good hire because CKD gives his coordinators the freedom to work. He would be a great replacement for CKW when he gets a new opportunity.

Not everything he did is still legal. Coaches still can’t directly pay players but there are ways around it sure. But Jeremy being Jeremy really didn’t seek those “ways around”. He really got dinged because him and his wife were directly involved in pay for play. Otherwise the show cause would’ve likely have been negotiated out by the NCAA.

But ultimately this kind of goes back to analogy of “you get a ticket for going 55 in 50 on a particular road but a month later the speed limit is 55”. Does that mean you get out of your ticket? According to the NCAA that’s a no, and I think the courts will probably uphold their decision like they upheld the NFL’s decision on Tom Brady. If they don’t then the NCAA truly dies in an instance. It’s a high risk for both the NCAA and Jeremy Pruitt to go this route instead of coming up with a compromise.

This is “seeking an injunction”. The major problem going against him is that the ncaa has provided him and JSU a compromise in which they could fulfill the obligations of the show cause while being employed. So really nothing is preventing them from doing that.


The major problem is that Pruitt admitted to basically everything he was accused of instead of lawyering up and lying. So he is basically arguing that “these violations don’t exist anymore” and “that show causes can’t exist anymore”. If any judge rules for him it basically kills the NCAA’s ability to enforce any type of punishment whatsoever. I honestly don’t know if they are going to find one that is willing to make a huge decision against a private institution like that. They could but I’m thinking most every judge is going to try to force the sides to negotiate it out to avoid such a decision
 
Well... Pruitt knew what he was doing was against the rules, so I won't lose sleep in any case.

On the other hand, given that you can do it all legally now is a bit unfair for him.

But mainly, it shows the hypocrisy of the NCAA that schools who have lawyered up have always gotten away with murder. Here is looking at the Barn...

Pruitt is like 10 cars going 90mph down the freeway but he's the one that gets the ticket, the football climate has changed and he's too good of a coach to not be coaching D1 ball.

That's actually a really good point I hadn't considered... to that effect, what makes us think Pruitt would even come back here to take a coordinator's position to begin with? Pruitt probably would take over a HC job somewhere else before considering taking a DC role or whatever here.
