Jets Place McElroy on Season Ending I.R.

I can't stand the Jets, but I never want to see a player, especially an Alabama player, get hurt. Tough break for McElroy as he loses the entire season now.

From @nyjets (The Jets' official twitter feed): #EA The Jets placed QB G. McElroy on season-ending IR. They also waived: OLB Aaron Maybin, DT Martin Tevaseu and CB Isaiah Truant.

Go to ESPN, NFL page, click on TRANS and you will get all the transactions in the past few days. Hundreds of names there. The ex-LSU QB and later at Jax State, Ryan Perrilou (misspelled) was released by the Giants also.

Just to be clear he is still on on the team just on the IR, so I'm not sure why everyone hear is acting like he was cut. Can anyone explain the difference?

He is a member of the team and continues to be paid. He is ineligible to be placed on the active roster (and thus play) unless they release him. My guess is they felt holding a roster slot for him this season to be the 3rd QB wasn't the best idea. My guess is that this gives him more study time with the offense (making up for time lost due to the lockout). My one concern is whether this is similar to the injury he had in the Senior Bowl. Repetitive injuries to your throwing hand can't be good.

thanks for the clarification.

So he will still be a jet Next season after he has healed from his injury?

He will be listed as a second year player next year, as long as he is on the injured reserve for at least six regular season games. If he were released before then (which would shock me), then he would be on some team's 2012 roster as a "First Year Player" as opposed to being a "Rookie".

He is going nowhere. I can't see the Jets letting another team get their hands on him. Sad to see him being placed in IR.

G-Mac was playing well especially considering the short amount of practice time and learning the playbook. His smarts certainly helped him impress the Jets staff.

Dislocation injuries generally are far more serious than breaks. Being on the IR will certainly help him mend while learning the offense.
