The latest update on Lemmings top 25 qb's on espn.com had Mr. Barnes
Ranked 21 in the nation so he is definetly getting more attention as the high
school football season progresses

Cool. I hope he lives up to his billing. We'll need him sooner rather than later.

Did you see QB #6, Jonathan Crompton, has committed to Tennessee? Brilliant! Plenty of room at the QB position there!

I have heard that Crompton has softened his verbal with the Vols a good
bit because of how well the freshmen have played for them. He has
scheduled visits to other schools including Bama.

It's good that Barnes is having a good season and impressing folks. It's bad because other schools are going to see to try and see just how solid his commit to UA truly is. Not to say he isn't a man of his word. But, as many of you know, ANYTHING can happen in recruiting.

re:

Please, I doubt that's going to happen at this point of the year.

Also, if Crompton remains committed to Tennessee then I will definitely lower their chances to get 2006 qb recruit Drew Hayes.

I'm not saying it will happen. But, with the thought that commitments are not binding, it's not beyond the realm of possibilities Barnes would start "listening" if he gets feelers from other schools such as OU, TX, Neb., etc. That said, he also realizes he has the chance (along with JPW) to get early playing time next year at UA.

I feel like Barnes is a firm commitment to Bama. He and his dad are both totally sold on Jimmy playing for Shula. But I also feel certain he'll redshirt unless everyone else gets injured. Shula is looking at Barnes as the QB of the future. I don't expect to see him play until his 3rd year at Bama. That would be 2007. Here's how it should play out: 05-Redshirt, Scout team. 06-3rd team behind Guillon and Wilson, learn the offense. 07-solid backup to Wilson, possible starter.

08 & 09 - Lead Bama to back-to-back NCs. ;)

IMO, I just don't know if JPW will beat out Barnes. I could be chewing on that later on, I'm sure we will see. Just as long as '08 & '09 remain true; I don't care who our QB is.

His dad made that statement for him. He's not visiting BAMA, Auburn or Michigan like his dad said. He says he's firmly committed to ut.... of course, nothing is final until the pen hits the paper. Just don't count on him visiting.

I just looked at that link and saw the top 25 QB's for nest year, and their verbal committments.

The no. 1 guy is from Syracuse, NY and has committed to Duke.

Not to play basketball, but to play football. Huh?

Why would you go to Duke to play football? I know that Duke is an excellent academic school, but if you are the top QB prospect in the nation, you probably can go anywhere you want. And, there are other good academic schools that play decent football (Stanford, Notre Damn, Cal, etc.), while Duke plays dreadful football.

Maybe he IS going to play b-ball and football. That may be the catch...

From what I understand, you are correct.... he is being offered a football scholly but intends to play basketball as well.
