Joe Pa's Comments

It was sad to see him isolated up there without any form of communication with the game.

His comments might be that he wishes his chair was higher because he could only see the players helmets and opposing grandstand. Plus isn't he near sighted. Did he really see the game?

With the head coach and offensive coach in the press box it was a recipe for confusion. Galen Hall should have been on the sideline as the players need leadership.

He is a legend of the game. He is also keeping another good man from making millions of dollars coaching football. It's time...

He was complimentary, but obviously upset about the way PSU played. I respect him, but he's really getting old and needs to let someone else take the reins. PSU is in shambles...at least offensively. Confusion seemed to be the norm on the sidelines.

I think he is being selfish and stubborn by not stepping down. It's been a great ride for the legendary coach but the program needs to move forward. I don't think they will until he finally lets go. JMO.

I was very upset with the announcers today mocking Coach Pa so much. Every time they'd quote him, it would be a half-A**ed immitation. I guess maybe I kinda get the ex-QB/color commentator doing it being a former player of Paterno... but the other guy was doing it all through the broadcast, too. The man's a legend and deserved better.

I am glad that we had these games with Penn St. though. It was special for college football and it certainly was special for me and my family. Penn St. is a class act.
Roll Tide!

Agreed... That time has come.
Unlike Daddy Bowden, Jo Pa should go ahead and bow out gracefully.
Whats to gain by sticking around?
No one wants to see him stroke out on the sideline;
that's not the way this story is supposed to end...
He's already one of the games most respected and winningest coaches.
That should be enough.
CJP should retire and take his place of honor with the other 'Legendary Coaches'.
Stay too long and fans tend to forget how good you were...
They have short memories.

I've gotta be honest, if I were a Penn State fan or alum I would be not be pleased. I'll probably get killed for saying this (and I'm ready to take it), but that program has too much potential to be stuck in neutral like it has been for years.

I'm a big Joe Pa fan, but I agree he should step down. But how do you ask Joe to retire? Who would you get to approach him? What if Bear Bryant continued coaching and every year we finished in the middle of the SEC wining 6 or 7 games. How many years would Bear have lasted before he was forced out?

Agree he should stepdown but at the sametime PSU football has been his life and its a good chance its what JoePa wakes up for each day.Always thought highly of the Coach with the coke bottle glasses !

I respect Joe Pa more than you can imagine but, the time to bow out gracefully is past, he needs to do the right thing for his program and retire.
I firmly convinced that he sees his future after football as Coach Bryant did and he's not ready for that. I salute you Coach Paterno but it's time to retire.

At some point it cannot be about him, but about PSU. CPB saw that...and so should CJP. PSU has been an afterthought/or a nice piece of memorabilia in NCAA football for over 10 years.

that's exactly what I was saying to our folks yesterday. They're paying him waay too much money for him to be letting his other coaches run the show and him be as detached during games as he has been. It was the same story in Tuscaloosa last year, except that he was on the sideline.

We seem to have this discussion every year. Coach P owns that program. Whatever role he plays, and it might be more of a "head of state" of football than a head of coaches, they are comfortable with up there. He gets paid millions, sure, as head coaches do, but he turns around and gives it all back to the university.

I enjoyed Jess's summary, that one day the guys on our team will appreciate the opportunity they had, to play a Paterno-coached team in Happy Valley.
