Josh Pate "How good is Alabama?"

I’m hoping we look more like 2011/2012 Bama but with more Tallent and depth across the board. Of course we’ll need the Oline to jell and the D to be a couple of notches above what we’ve seen the last couple of seasons. This will take some pressure off who ever wins the QB job. They will have to be accurate and not turn the ball over. See AJ. I’m hoping it’s Simpson and that he turns out to be the leader and decision maker we need. Ya. I know DUH right!

I read an article today that Perry Thompson was thinking of switching his commitment to Auburn. Why on earth would any wide receiver want to go there? I can't think of the last Auburn receiver that was even remotely good. And when was the last decent quarterback? (cam Newton)

Freeze recruited DK Metcalf and AJ Brown to Ole Miss and they're still really good in the NFL. Plus he recruited Laquan Treadwell and Evan Ingram who have made millions in the NFL. So while AU hasn't had much in way of pass catchers that could change under Freeze.

I don't want to read too much into this quote from Turner, but can we assume that this statement is an indication of our previous DC doing the opposite and getting too much involved on the defensive calls to the point of not being ready at the snap?

Same player who says Bama is getting back to 'joyless murderball'.

This doesn't hurt my feelings.

After listening to Coach Saban's interview with Pate I really don't think we're going to need a receiver to function in this capacity anyway. Saban admitted we'd become too pass/"Bryce" dependent. He explained that part of that reason was due to the OL not being able to do what they needed to do to run the ball like he wanted. He seemed to indicate they weren't going to have that problem this season and the hiring of Rees is his way of moving the needle back toward a more run-oriented, power offense.

Though we don't have the elite talent at WR of a Smitty or Ruggs, it isn't mediocre talent either. They are well above average talented WR's and within the system that we appear to be going back to, they should be able to more than do what we need them to do in this year's offense. Especially considering the potential use of the TE's that Rees LOVES to use in his offense. (y)
GREAT post. Imo, this Alabama team is loaded. We will go as far as the QB will take us imo.
To put things in perspective, Bryce had a yards per attempt average of 8.8. Milroe has one of 5.8, a 34% difference. If our starting QB finishes the season with a 5.8 ypa we will be lucky to win 8 games, even though we will surely focus on the run much more this year. Like it or not, football (due to the rule changes) is now a pass dominated game in both the NFL and NCAA. I am not saying that Milroe can't improve. I am saying that he MUST in order for us to win if he is the starter.

With his talent he might be a Heisman Trophy contender. I hope that he is but I have serious doubts.

UGA says “hi” X2

see, when you run something counter to the norm just enough, you win. We had Jalen, Tua, Mac and Bryce, played for 5 and won 2 NCs.

we had McElroy, AJ and Coker we played 4 and won 4.

when you control the LOS, you win.

I agree they are both pass dominated. But in the NCAA you can still win with a ground game and a stifling defense , because few teams are built to stop it anymore.

This is very similar to a conversation I had with a friend a few years ago. As the game trends one way an outlier can really tear the competition up. Spurrier with the fun and gun comes to mind. The game was mostly running in the sec and spurrier was slinging the ball all over the field and won a ton of games and conference titles because defenses weren’t built to stop that kind of offense.

today smaller quicker defenses designed to defend the spread are vulnerable to two blocking TE’s and a mauling o line. They can’t hold up at the LOS. UGA has proven that.

If the guys we have now learn to put in the work that Smitty, Jeudy, Ruggs, Waddle, Metchie, Cooper and Julio did (there are others, but those guys worked their tails off), some of them have the tools to be stars. We tend to assume they won't because some good ones have not, and some have left. The past 2 seasons we've seen a lot of evidence of too many guys not having done enough of the little things in preparation for when the get on the field.

Unless JM has gone through a massive transformation over the summer, you don't have to worry about it.

One of the other two will be the QB and I think whoever wins the starting job between them will do just fine because....see the post below!
