I get both sides of the argument, and ultimately feel that Bama screwed Bama here.

But Josh is talking out of both sides of his mouth here - he constantly talks about the myth of 'you are what your record says you are' yet that's the only argument one can really make in preference of TCU over Bama wrt inclusion in the CFP.

I like Pate a lot, but he loves to build straw men...

He's a Georgia guy. His inner fan is thrilled Alabama was not in the field.

Two things can be true at once. People are so ideological about so many issues now that it's hard for most people to hold more than one thought in their brain at a time. Bama did make their own bed and had to lay in it so to speak, but at the same time everyone with a brain knew TCU was not as good as Bama. What did blow me away was Michigan's performance. As I watched the TCU Michigan game I told my wife how frustrating it was knowing even this Bama team with a healthy Bryce would beat both of them handily. It was frustrating because they weren't there because of what they did to themselves.

I would make the video Pate made and say that Bama missed the playoffs due to their own failures in two games, but they were better than Michigan and TCU. Bama gave the committee no choice but to leave them out even though they were actually better.

Here’s my biggest argument with TCU going in. The committee states “conference championships are an important criteria” in terms of decision making. So TCU loses in their championship game but doesn’t move a single spot? So then the narrative changes to “they deserve to be in”. And suddenly the conference championship “isn’t important” and “not wanting to unfairly punish” TCU for playing that extra game IS Important?

Hypothetical: If Alabama would have lost to UGA in the 2021 SECCG narrowly or in overtime, does the committee put them in? It would have been a two loss Bama but with a last second loss to TAMU and then a close or overtime loss to then #1 UGA. We know that answer- of course not.

Look Bama had its chances. Win one of those two games they lost and it is academic. They are back in Atlanta playing for the SEC championship and who knows what from there. But we “messed in the nest”.

But this committee screwed up big time. The simple eyeball test Monday night only proved it.

Using his logic, An undefeated Cincinnati would be in the playoffs ahead of a one loss Alabama who lost in the SEC championship game.

He also talks about strength of schedule all the time. If power ratings aren’t the chief way to measure the strength of a team, then he needs to be quiet about schedule strength, and playing cupcakes…. Because strength of schedule is one of the most important elements in power ratings
