BamaOnLine.com - Nominees for U.S. Army POY Award announced
The U.S. Army All-American Bowl Selection Committee has nominated 16 student-athletes for the prestigious 2010 U.S. Army Player of the Year Award, considered high school football's highest honor. The U.S. Army Player of the Year award is given to the nation's most outstanding senior high school football player participating in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

The six finalists for the award will be announced on December 2, 2009. The U.S. Army Player of the Year will be crowned during the U.S. Army Awards Dinner on January 9, 2010, in San Antonio, where the winner will be presented with the Ken Hall Trophy, modeled after Ken "Sugar Land Express" Hall, high school football's all-time leading rusher.

Past U.S. Army Player of the Year winners include: 2001-Kevin Jones (Chicago Bears); 2002-Lorenzo Booker (Miami Dolphins); 2003-Chris Leak (Montreal Alouettes); 2004-Adrian Peterson (Minnesota Vikings); 2005-Ryan Perrilloux (Jacksonville State); 2006-Mitch Mustain (USC); 2007-Jimmy Clausen (Notre Dame), 2008-Terrelle Pryor (Ohio State), and 2009-Bryce Brown (Tennessee).

Do we really want any of our guys to win it? I would say most of those guys were huge busts and the ones that still have a chance seem mostly like character guys...

I wouldn't say most were busts. Looks like a talented group of players to me.

Only one of those guys that talent wise didn't really pan out may be Mustain. Ryan P may have been a big time player at LSU had he not been a thug off the field. Other than that, I wouldn't mind any of those guys on my team.

Past U.S. Army Player of the Year winners include:
2001-Kevin Jones, dont remember him somehow
2002-Lorenzo Booker was he not the big bust RB from FSU?
2003-Chris Leak Good Qb, no problems here
2004-Adrian Peterson Freak of nature, a real standout.
2005-Ryan Perrilloux Bust, cant stay out of trouble and is no longer in Div 1A
2006-Mitch Mustain Bust, has not played that I know of in the last three years.
2007-Jimmy Clausen good qb would take him.
2008-Terrelle Pryor All the skills in the world, no brains. I think he will be a bust in the end.
and 2009-Bryce Brown Hell of a rb, still expect him to end up in trouble just because of all the things that happened in his recruitment and where he decided to go and their track record. I think he will be a bust in the end much like Perriloux.

I think it's about a 50-50 thing, but that's just my opinion.

Great college back at VT. Had a huge Junior season, went pro, got drafted early, and hasn't had much success in the NFL.

Still, we'd take that 1600+ yard, 21 TD Junior campaign.

And there's no way I'd take Pryor: he is just not a good passer, he doesn't seem to think quickly enough on the field, and his athleticism is highly overrated (that purported 4.3 forty is hogwash). Maybe TE...

I think if Pryor had gone to UM with RichRod, he would have had a much better career.

It is wonderful to see any of our recruits held in enough esteem to be nominated for an award like this. I can't wait to see him in Crimson. On a side note we may have the biggest WR corps in the nation. He just adds to it.
