How many different linebacker coaches do we need??? At some point we need to hire someone (other than CNS) who can coach defensive backs!
it’s a new thing. Every linebacker position gets their own coach. The rest of the defensive is told to just “freelance”.- Pretty much the Pete Golding scheme the last five years.

Speaking of Miami coaches, I kind of like the guy Cristobal hired as DC. I wonder if Nick considered Guidry.

In retrospect I don't think Saban was ever going to hire someone that wasn't already familiar with his defense - he's tried that one since coming to Bama (Gol*ing) and we all see how that went. I don't think Guidry fits that mold.

Was Golding's first year at DC or did he come in at another position and then transition to DC after JP left? I can't remember.

I agree , but Guidry was a former HC , Which Saban likes . With a winning record I might add, and a DB coach, which Saban likes . His defense got off the field on third down, stopped The run , got turnovers and pressured the QB.

.Marshall 2022 Defense National Ranks: 1st - 3rd down Defense; 2nd - Def Stop rate; 4th - Efficiency Defense; 5th - Turnovers gained; 6th - Pass Eff Defense; 6th - Rushing Defense; 7th - Scoring Def; 7th - Yards per play; 9th - Sacks; 9th - Interceptions; 10th - 1st down Defense; 10th - Total Defense
Golding was young, and I think Nick wanted to mold him like he did Muschamp or Smart. But Pete wasn’t having it.

it’s all water under the bridge at this point, let’s go Coach Steele, Roll Tide!

You gotta remember that Saban believes that you mold the offensive scheme around your players and you mold your players around your defensive scheme.

So OC can be most anyone - they'll run 'Bama's offense' but have some freedom wrt play-calling and scheming. Defensively, the coordinator needs to know Bama's defense and teach it consistently, regardless as to who is DC.

I think it was more of Petey wasn't competent enough nor disciplined enough to do the things it takes to be great.

I don't gamble. I've never gambled a penny on sports, of which I had no part in the outcome.

I don't understand why people waste their money on it.
I used to gamble repeatedly on Alabama and tOSU games with my boss (an OSU fan). Our usual stakes were a sausage McMuffin from MacDonalds. ($1 at the time). It was mostly just a conversation item while we had breakfast.
