Gosh, I've always respected Kirk. He's one of the few that has seemed sensible, but this is beyond my comprehension. I guess someone's got to give us negative feedback. Maybe he drew the short straw. :conf2:

Just got done arguing with an Auburn acquaintance of mine..

According to him..

-There depth is better than ours.. everywhere..
-Cam Newton is the best football player of all time..
-They have the best staff ever..
-They have as good a shot at winning the national title as we do..

Btw those are all real statements he made.. not exaggerations by me..

Oh yeah! lol he also said we're stupid for not taking our bye week every year at the end of the season to prepare for the Iron Bowl.. because "it can go either way.." lol

I believe you. You can't make stuff like that up. I also work with a couple of Barners who think like that. I don't honestly know what to make of that kind of thinking. Wishful thinking? Day dreaming?

My hope? I hope that we are both undefeated for that last game of the year. Imagine the hype around that game than. It would be back on the national stage where it should be. Than the perfect ending, we beat them 49-0. :tongue:

Losing the leadership of Ro is going to hurt but DH seems to be picking the leadership role.

As far as I can tell, Hightower has already become a great leader, but I have a hard time imagining him making the kind of impact Rolando did last season.

Herby is usually pretty fair and balanced, and if that is is true assessment and belief, then good for him.
Do I disagree? Sure.
But a 49-0 thrashing sounds GOOOOOOD

Some of you need to relax As others have said, it's a TV show. I guarantee Herbstreit doesn't believe half that stuff he said, but it's his job to say what the producers want him to. And the producers want the anchors to have a bunch of differing opinions to stir up controversy and get people talking about/tuning into their show. It's not rocket science people...

It even applies to their coaches. I was reading SportingNews the other day. It was a several page spread entitled "A new Game in town", about the Bama-Florida rivalry and it being the new Michigan-Ohio State or Texas-Oklahoma in college football. Third page was Reason #2 "The coaches are the best minds in the game."

Ellis Johnson was asked "why it's so hard to prepare for Meyer's offense" He had a good answer and it addressed the question.

Gus Malzahn was asked "Why it's so hard to prepare for Saban's defense".
Answer: "you try to figure out what gives you the best chance of being successful and try to avoid the things you won't be successful with. They have great athletes-there's no doubt about that. They do a good job. But you prepare the same as you prepare for the rest. You have to be aggressive right back at him. That's very important."


Is it me or was that an answer to the question?

IMO, Herbstreit is better than this. Honestly, I don't think he really believes Auburn will actually win the West. Look at this way, everyone is picking us because of our success last season and who we have coming back on offense. We're the safe pick. However, history would suggest that we won't win the SEC again, so Herbstreit is just going with the percentages by not picking us.

When we do crush Auburn and win the SEC again, he'll just say, "Hey, I went out on a limb and I was wrong". This really isn't a big deal, although I do think it's weird he has us ranked #1 in the nation but says that we won't even win our division....

I must admit, we may not make it to the title game. I feel we have the best shot. But i would bet LSU or Arkansas would go if we don't.
Arkansas has a good offense.
LSU has talent and a coach who can be lucky as heck.
Both have conference titles. Petrino CUSA and Big East and Miles SEC.

Gene has that 5-19, 3-5 in the SEC, and a lost to KY going for him and 600 yards gave up to northwestern... wait I see what he means...

Yeah Chizik the Midget can win the SEC west....

In an earlier thread/post, I stated that the Barn would be and do better than LSU this year and could challenge for the SEC West. After a second look and another review of their schedule, 3 -4 losses seem probable and perhaps even a fifth loss possible. I like Herbstreit but looks like he's picked the "flavor of the day" and sexy pick in predicting the Barn to challenge UF for the SEC title.

This is a weird pick. There were two guys on the SEC Preview Show today that said Alabama would win the SEC Championship. The Mays guys didn't believe the hype around Auburn. He said they would have to knock off Alabama, LSU, and Arkansas before he will believe that.

Only 10 days 20 hours until the game. It can't come soon enough.
