for calling out Virginia Tech's ridiculously thugged-out program on numerous occasions tonight. I don't know that I've ever heard Kirk so impassioned, but I found it perfectly appropriate and incredibly refreshing.

What a disgrace that program has become.

Well, back when they beat Bama like they stole something in the Music City Bowl, for one. As Kirk explained tonight, pre-Michael Vick, VT was a lunch pail kind of team, year in and year out. Now they're easily the most thuggish program in the NCAA. They make Miami look like Vanderbilt.

Yeah, that was pretty bad. In addition, I'm glad Kirk and Chris called out the replay process. I'm all for replay because it gets the plays right, but it shouldn't take that long to review most plays and the on the field calls have been horrible this season.

True. I think what we saw tonight was one of the unintended consequences of the replay system: calls were made on the field that were clearly wrong (the late incomplete pass initially ruled a fumble comes to mind), perhaps because, had they been called the other way, they would've been unreviewable. When you combine the fact that certain calls made on the field will deem a play unreviewable (e.g., ruling that the ground caused a fumble, thus ruling the play dead) with the standard of proof necessary to overturn the play as called on the field (i.e., indisputable video evidence), there is the potential for a real problem.

Consider the possibility that refs will make calls contrary to what they believe most likely happened so as to avoid barring the possibility of replay review (again, what I think happened on the BC incomplete pass that was initially ruled a catch and fumble). Then consider that the video evidence isn't 100% dispositive (because of a poor camera angle, etc.) but indicates that it's more probable than not that the play was called wrongly on the field. If the refs strictly adhere to the standard of review, the play will stand as called on the field, despite the fact that the ref made a call contrary to what he thought was most likely the correct call.

Which leads into the topic of why some of these "kids" are in school in the first place. It seems to me, although I may be speaking idealistically, that the main reason of attending college is to further one's education, not solely to play football.
All in all, though, I guess it's not such a bad thing that our K-12 school systems are failing to educate our kids. They may not be able to read their names on their high school diplomas, but they sure will make a outstanding additions to our team. We'll put them through some fake courses, like sociology, interpersonal communications, basket weaving or gardening. We won't need to worry about whether they will be productive citizens after we "graduate" them.
So when you talk about a school being "thugged up", just think "thugs in, thugs out".
Or in other words, "As ye sow, so shall ye reap".

That game was pathetic. Va tech looked horrible. Thats not a team but a group of individuals. And my gawd what a bunch of thugs. Makes tutorsee look like a church group. Beamer isn't a coach he's a warden.

They put late hit after late hit on Thaddeus Lewis during Duke's game up there, so much so that he got injured and taken out of the game.

There aren't many teams I would like to see crash and burn, but that is definitely one of them.
