Last Warning on Skirting Rules on Profanity

I don't know how we could make it any more clear, with multiple threads and posts as well as a FAQ entry

But for your sake, here you go - TIDEFANS HAS A ZERO TOLERANCE FOR PROFANITY

How's that?

If you need profanity to express your opinion, share your opinion elsewhere.
Fair enough.

I'm just saying that, while I understand the frustration if this has been a repeated topic of conversation, new posters won't have read old threads. The FAQ, including the one linked, doesn't at all make it clear that there's zero tolerance for profanity (by which I mean light swear words that are common on broadcast television, Nick Saban press conferences, and the like) but rather gave me the impression that it was gross vulgarity and obscenity that were banned.

FWIW, I used a mild profanity of the former type the other day (referencing the part of Lane Kiffin's anatomy that was famously chewed by CNS) without thinking about it and it wasn't censored by the software. Nobody complained on the board but another user private messaged me.

The site rules, at least as on the FAQ page, target "Gross vulgarity or obscenity," not mere profanity. If all profanity is banned---which is fine---it should be clear. This post is several months old and I wouldn't have seen it except for a new reply.
I was curious about this as well. We see MTAQ references all the time here, and even the occasional "through a tin horn."

I had assumed that those were considered mild enough so as not to cross the "gross vulgarity" line. 🤷‍♂️

If something is deemed profanity by the Benevolent Dictator™ it is censored by the software. The issue linked above tells you one of the rules is to not try to side-step the filter.

Not sure how much more clear we need to be unless you think we need to write out each word. If someone is that slow on the uptake, then perhaps TF isn't the best place for them.

If it wasn't censored by the software then it's fine. You apparently didn't receive notification from a mod, so I fail to see the issue.

Thanks CA & 4Q for working on this whack-a-mole issue. To further explain, the software SHOULD filter all the "you can't say it on TV" words + a bunch of other things that are generally vulgar in polite society, or at least deemed as such by me, or as many permutations as I know of for posting those words. However, it's not perfect given the infinite ways to phrase something (especially acronyms).

Don't assume that just because the filter didn't catch it then it's ok. If someone wants to send me a list of words/acronyms that should be added to the software, I'll update it.

I've always used the "if you wouldn't say it to your momma, then don't say it on TideFans" mantra. Now those of you whose mommas have potty mouths, you need to change that to "your preacher or grandma" !!

The ultimate test may be if MY sweet innocent 11 year old daughter could read it and me not be embarrassed by her having done so. :D

I really don't want to be the schoolmarm scold. But I'm getting tired of saying this. Used to be about once a quarter. Now it's about once a month or so.

Alternative spellings of profanity, cute transpositions, or any other attempt to convey the profane word without actually using it are treated exactly the same as if you put the word itself in bold, red, 64 point font.

How hard is this?

Every single poster acknowledges the board's rules and pledges to abide by them. Some posters apparently think they are above the rules. They are wrong.

If you can't abide by the rule against profanity or attempts to skirt the filters, take your business to a site that allows it. There are plenty of them.

I'm done with Beavis-and-Butthead attempts to circumvent the ban on profanity. Next time it happens, it's a minimum of a week's vacation, even if it's the first offense.
Does this rule not exist during games this year?

Had some folks trying to skirt our profanity rules using acronyms / abbreviations last night. Just letting everyone know if I see it it will be an immediate 30-day suspension for the first offense, permanent ban for the second.

I don't care if you talk to your momma that way, we do not allow it here, and I'm intolerant about it.

Just a few minutes ago, I had to suspend a different poster for 30 days for linking a video with profanity and a lot of unacceptable language in the comments shown in the video's scroll.

You're responsible for what you link just as if you created and posted the material yourself.

We're simply not going to have that kind of stuff on TideFans.
