So we got Devonta Pollard!!!!!! 2013 is looking to be a really good class, but can great if a few pieces fall our way. We have four open spots. I don't think we get Harrell to round out 2012.

Commits:
Shannon Hale 6'8 PF Rivals 126, Scout 92, ESPN 99
Jimme Taylor 6'9 C Rivals 30, Scout 56, ESPN 47

Hale is more of a scorer than Taylor. His stock tanked last summer, but be has rebuilt his body and developed his game. Truth be told he has really out performed Taylor on the EYBL circuit this summer. He is also becoming more of an outside player. He may become another combo SF/PF before it's all said and done. Taylor's offense needs a lot of work. That is an understatement. He will rebound and protect the rim.

Realistic PF/C Targets:
Jarell Martin 6'8 PF Rivals 62, Scout 28, ESPN 17
Antravious Simmons 6'9 C Rivals 143, Scout NR, ESPN NR

Martin is from Baton Rouge. In a recent artcle his prep coach said LSU has made him a priority since hiring their new coach. He also said the Coach Grant has been the most consistent recruiter of Martin and has been to see him as much as possible. Martin will wait until the Spring to sign. The reason given was he hasn't had the time to visit many schools. Simmons has a mans body. He gave up football and has lost a lot of weight. He has been under the radar, but is starting to gain a lot of pub. Recently it was said that VCU and Bama were two of his favorites. There was a twitter rumor that be committed to Syracuse.

Realistic PG Targets:
Anthony Barber 6'2 Rivals 13, Scout 14, ESPN 25
Kendall Harris 6'4 Rivals 100, Scout NR, ESPN 93

The best news is the Barber has us in his top 2 along w/ Kansas. My only reservation is that he likes Duke a lot. If they offer things may change. It has been said that 2012 players Willie Cauley and DeVon Walker were silent commits until UK and UF offered. Anthony Barber is from Virginia and plays for Boo Williams. That could be important. I don't think Harris has a public offer, but people close to the program think he will be the PG we sign in the fall.

There are other players out there like Sina and Mostella. There is also Greg McClinton and Troy Williams to name a few. Troy Williams is the nephew of Boo Williams. He's AAU teammates of Barber. The 6'7 small forward was down to Kentucky and UNC. It's been said that he has reopened his recruitment and Bama has made the short list. Even if we dont get players like Barber and Williams it is great that they like us and comment on how hard Coach Grant recruits them.

To be honest I don't care what combinations of players we end up w/ out of those listed above. I think Simmons is more realistic than Martin. My personal opinion is if we can get Simmons in the fall we should take him. I'd love to finish this class in the fall and get started on the 2014 class which is also a good one.

FYI, Rivals rates the top 150. Scout and ESPN rate the top 100. In all three polls if you are in the top 100 you are considered a 4* prospect.

Please forgive typos. I'm too lazy to proof right now. RTR!!!!

I haven't seen anything to point to Barber signing in th spring. With him naming a top two it looks like he will sign in the fall.

Well we might still be in it for Harrell for 2012 so I got my fingers crossed for that. Also I think we get Barber or Harris. Barber doesnt seem like the type of kid that Duke even recruits. His game is more flash and athleticism than pure basketball IQ and skill. He is a beast though.

I'd love to get Harrell. I read that L'ville hired a coach from Hargrave and they've "convinced" a scholarship kid to pay for school to open up a scholly for Harrell. If Coach can pull Harrell into the fold I'd be all for it. At that point I say we sign a PG in the fall and be done w/ it. One thing that concerns me is a recent ESPN article about Harrell. He seems to be enjoying this new found recruiting attention and may milk it as long as possible.

Say something about a shooter?

Xaiver Rathan-Mayes is rated the #66 players in the nation by Rivals. He's Canadian, but attends prep school In West Virginia. He is a combo guard that likes Bama a lot.

My guard wish list is:
1. Anthony Barber
2. Xavier Rathan-Mayes
3. Kendall Harris
4. Jaren Sina (I don't think is a realistic possibility)
5. Detrick Mostella (only if we have to)

Bama has offered Damien Jones. He's 6'9 center out of Baton Rouge. He is a 3 star and not rated in the Rivals top 150, but I expect that to change. He is a great kid. His main focus in becoming an electrical engineer. His top 3 are Bama, Vandy, and Florida. From what I hear he has an internship at Exxon Mobil and travels a long way to attend a high school that has an electrical engineering program. He looks like one of those solid 4 year players and good kids every program needs.

Not sure if this will change anything, but it sounds like good news which seems to be all we can hope for right now until the end of summer. CLICKY
He was spotted a Buffalo Wild Wings with Grant. He played a few pick up games with the team. Pollard and Taylor are also in town. He leaves tomorrow.

Pollard was huge and we're off to a great start for this year.

How many recruits are we taking for the 2013 cycle?

We have four open slots and we will use all four. Some think we may sign five is the right combination of prospects want to sign. This class is why we didn't waste scholarships on bodies that wouldn't continue.

We have made great progress w/ Barber's 6'6 SF AAU teammate Troy Williams. Rivals rates him as the 19th player in the nation.

Could 2013 be better than 2011?
Yes, we have the chance to get the rivals 13th ranked player in the nation (Barber). We already have the 30th in Jimmie. We are moving along really well with the 19th player in Troy Williams. I'm interested to see where Hale ends up. I think he will or should make a major leap in the rankings.

Saw the campus, played some pick up games with the team, went to Wild Wings with Coach Grant. It was your typical unofficial visit.
