So we got Devonta Pollard!!!!!! 2013 is looking to be a really good class, but can great if a few pieces fall our way. We have four open spots. I don't think we get Harrell to round out 2012.
Commits:
Shannon Hale 6'8 PF Rivals 126, Scout 92, ESPN 99
Jimme Taylor 6'9 C Rivals 30, Scout 56, ESPN 47
Hale is more of a scorer than Taylor. His stock tanked last summer, but be has rebuilt his body and developed his game. Truth be told he has really out performed Taylor on the EYBL circuit this summer. He is also becoming more of an outside player. He may become another combo SF/PF before it's all said and done. Taylor's offense needs a lot of work. That is an understatement. He will rebound and protect the rim.
Realistic PF/C Targets:
Jarell Martin 6'8 PF Rivals 62, Scout 28, ESPN 17
Antravious Simmons 6'9 C Rivals 143, Scout NR, ESPN NR
Martin is from Baton Rouge. In a recent artcle his prep coach said LSU has made him a priority since hiring their new coach. He also said the Coach Grant has been the most consistent recruiter of Martin and has been to see him as much as possible. Martin will wait until the Spring to sign. The reason given was he hasn't had the time to visit many schools. Simmons has a mans body. He gave up football and has lost a lot of weight. He has been under the radar, but is starting to gain a lot of pub. Recently it was said that VCU and Bama were two of his favorites. There was a twitter rumor that be committed to Syracuse.
Realistic PG Targets:
Anthony Barber 6'2 Rivals 13, Scout 14, ESPN 25
Kendall Harris 6'4 Rivals 100, Scout NR, ESPN 93
The best news is the Barber has us in his top 2 along w/ Kansas. My only reservation is that he likes Duke a lot. If they offer things may change. It has been said that 2012 players Willie Cauley and DeVon Walker were silent commits until UK and UF offered. Anthony Barber is from Virginia and plays for Boo Williams. That could be important. I don't think Harris has a public offer, but people close to the program think he will be the PG we sign in the fall.
There are other players out there like Sina and Mostella. There is also Greg McClinton and Troy Williams to name a few. Troy Williams is the nephew of Boo Williams. He's AAU teammates of Barber. The 6'7 small forward was down to Kentucky and UNC. It's been said that he has reopened his recruitment and Bama has made the short list. Even if we dont get players like Barber and Williams it is great that they like us and comment on how hard Coach Grant recruits them.
To be honest I don't care what combinations of players we end up w/ out of those listed above. I think Simmons is more realistic than Martin. My personal opinion is if we can get Simmons in the fall we should take him. I'd love to finish this class in the fall and get started on the 2014 class which is also a good one.
FYI, Rivals rates the top 150. Scout and ESPN rate the top 100. In all three polls if you are in the top 100 you are considered a 4* prospect.
Please forgive typos. I'm too lazy to proof right now. RTR!!!!
