Kirby Smart calls out ‘precedent’ set by SEC officials, Texas fans for ‘endangering athletes’ (msn.com)

Further, Smart offered some preliminary clarification as to what happened. Officials originally announced the penalty to the stadium as defensive pass interference. Smart said that head official Matt Loeffler explained that the penalty was miscalled or announced and was actually supposed to be offensive pass interference.
IF this is true, then the refs had to make the reversal and the tantrum had nothing to do with it. (Didn't mention why the ruling wasn't change to offensive pass interference but that wouldn't have mattered.) Sounds a bit shaky.

I don't know the answer to control the crowd either; they are fans and not the team. If they could identify the culprits, they should haul them to jail.

So the SEC doubles down…I guess the officials are not the only clown crew. Sankey and the SEC Office says “Hold my beer…”

who do these officials have pictures of? this particular crew has had massive errors that just get overlooked constantly.

One problem, the officials WAITED until after the crowd threw the tantrum to reverse the call. The huddle and discussion must take place immediately after the call. The proper procedure is, if the call is to be discussed, huddle before you announce it. If it was incorrect, announce they was no foul on the play and pick up the flag.

In this case, they announced it, the crowd reacted, then waited several minutes to huddle to reverse the call.

I’m just having a hard time believing that. Because it took over 5 minutes to make that correction and the refs have mics and earpieces. There was also a considerable amount of time elapse between the call and the first beer bottle flying. This seems more of a way to get around the truth of “we watched the review on the board and got scared”

And if Matt Loeffler was standing in front of me right now I’d call “BS” to his face that the decision to reverse that call was not influenced by the crowd reaction and the replays in the stadium.

The tantrum started right when the "incorrect call" was announced. It could be that the referee who realized the head official misunderstood the call got back with him immediately and they had to clarify it again; tantrum or no tantrum.

Either way, the optics are bad and the precedent is in play. Can't wait till next weekend's games to see what takes place; I just hope it is not in Tuscaloosa.

This is how bad officiating has gotten. Not once, not twice, but at least THREE times the former official adding perspective on the broadcast disagreed with the call/non call in the game, TWO of which could have directly influenced the outcome. ONE - the illegal substitution- stated the call was wrong, officials didn’t follow proper function and Bama’s defense must be allowed to match up. TWO - the obvious hold/grab of Williams on throw to end zone that was missed. Absolutely was DPI. We settled for a FG. THREE - the unsportsmanlike penalty on Law that put us in 4th and 22. It was obvious that the UT player was in Law’s face taunting him, whin IS a penalty. It should have been offsetting at the least. 4th and 7 is more manageable than 4th and 22. Yeah, Law has to know better, but the “baiting” has to be called as well.

We deserve a lot better across college football.

One day soon this will happen:
Questionable call
Home team player fakes injury to stop play.
Reply shown on jumbotron.
Fans throw trash on field.
# killref trends sharply.
Home office text head official " REVERSE CALL"
Fans Pat themselves on back for job well done.
Announcer remarks "that's home field advantage"

And this will be the new norm

SEC, it just means more
