IF this is true, then the refs had to make the reversal and the tantrum had nothing to do with it. (Didn't mention why the ruling wasn't change to offensive pass interference but that wouldn't have mattered.) Sounds a bit shaky.Further, Smart offered some preliminary clarification as to what happened. Officials originally announced the penalty to the stadium as defensive pass interference. Smart said that head official Matt Loeffler explained that the penalty was miscalled or announced and was actually supposed to be offensive pass interference.
who do these officials have pictures of? this particular crew has had massive errors that just get overlooked constantly. So the SEC doubles down…I guess the officials are not the only clown crew. Sankey and the SEC Office says “Hold my beer…”

One problem, the officials WAITED until after the crowd threw the tantrum to reverse the call. The huddle and discussion must take place immediately after the call. The proper procedure is, if the call is to be discussed, huddle before you announce it. If it was incorrect, announce they was no foul on the play and pick up the flag.Kirby Smart calls out ‘precedent’ set by SEC officials, Texas fans for ‘endangering athletes’ (msn.com)
IF this is true, then the refs had to make the reversal and the tantrum had nothing to do with it. I don't know the answer to control the crowd either, they are fans and not the team. If they could identify the culprits, they should haul them to jail.
I’m just having a hard time believing that. Because it took over 5 minutes to make that correction and the refs have mics and earpieces. There was also a considerable amount of time elapse between the call and the first beer bottle flying. This seems more of a way to get around the truth of “we watched the review on the board and got scared”Kirby Smart calls out ‘precedent’ set by SEC officials, Texas fans for ‘endangering athletes’ (msn.com)

And if Matt Loeffler was standing in front of me right now I’d call “BS” to his face that the decision to reverse that call was not influenced by the crowd reaction and the replays in the stadium.I’m just having a hard time believing that. The tantrum started right when the "incorrect call" was announced. It could be that the referee who realized the head official misunderstood the call got back with him immediately and they had to clarify it again; tantrum or no tantrum. One problem, the officials WAITED until after the crowd threw the tantrum to reverse the call. In this case, they announced it, the crowd reacted, then waited several minutes to huddle to reverse the call.
Loeffler is playing CYA as is the SEC Office. The tantrum started right when the "incorrect call" was announced. It could be that the referee who realized the head official misunderstood the call got back with him immediately and they had to clarify it again; tantrum or no tantrum.
Either way, the optics are bad and the precedent is in play. Can't wait till next weekend's games to see what takes place; I just hope it is not in Tuscaloosa.

I really don’t want them in our conference for this very reasonTexas has ruined 2 conferences before. It is only a matter of time.
We really need less reviews and better coping skills.I think it should be reviewable. There are too many non calls and bad calls
Texas has ruined 2 conferences before. It is only a matter of time.
I don't think this will put a stop to it.The Longhorns will have to pay a $250,00 fine and "use all available resources, including security, stadium and television video, to identify individuals who threw objects onto the playing field or at the opposing team." Any individuals found to have participated will be banned from Texas athletic events for the rest of the year, per the SEC.
Me and a buddy have discussed this several times. I never wanted UTx for this reason.Texas has ruined 2 conferences before. It is only a matter of time.
Probably not but it is a solid attempt. Find a few hundred of those fans who threw things and give them a lifetime ban. Can't hurt.SEC Announces Harsh Penalty for Texas Following Trash-Throwing Incident (msn.com)
I don't think this will put a stop to it.
