Longhorn Network to launch in 2 weeks w/no carriers

The Dallas Morning News is reporting that the Longhorn Network has failed to sign any carriers despite being only two weeks from launching.

"Some carrier somewhere in the great state of Texas should have signed up by now. But no one has stepped forward. I checked with ESPN on Friday just to make sure the self-proclaimed Worldwide Leader wasn't holding back on a carriage announcement.

Of course, it isn't. Instead a spokesperson offered up the network mantra: "We are still in active discussions."

What is unusual here is that ESPN, LHN and Texas haven't made a single deal with say DirecTV or Dish or AT&T or Verizon Fios that it could try to leverage against the cable companies, as well as its satellite or telecom rivals

Maybe ESPN sees what is happening and they dont want to commit substantial cash to a network that may now in fact be less desirable when they know by contract they will have to renegotiate with the SEC. That pending re-negotiation would be more attractive to ESPN especially if it also included either or both FSU/VT.

But but the LHN is the channel EVERYONE wants? Atleast thats what the UT fans say. They can survive as an Indie and dominate the world with their LHN that EVERY top recruit wants to play on!

its just a stupid concept in my opinion....i love alabama football but i don't expect someone to in california or maine to give a rip about it. to think a majority of people want to see texas football and other sports 24/7 anywhere outside of austin texas is just delusional.
