Their schedule has been pretty easy so far. Their biggest win was S Carolina 29-20. And maybe Kansas 42-31. They can score points, so the defense will need to show up, as they did in the second half against Vandy. I think our offense can move the chains. Unranked Kansas hung 31 on them. I have not seen them play. So I don't know what they bring to the table.

They lean heavily into the run game on offense. Given our issues in setting edges, gap integrity and DB support in the run game, it won’t be easy to slow them down. They are going to score points.
Their defense is rather suspect. My guess this game will one where we will need to out score them. Something like 42-35.

Edit: my point being that I don’t believe either of these defenses possess the ability to consistently stop the other’s offense . This game IMO will come down to turnovers and which offense “shoots themselves in the foot” the least with stupid penalties. I give Bama’s defense the slight edge because they have played the stronger schedule.

One other thing that might play into our hands is Missouri QB Pribula really hasn’t been tested. Can we pressure him into mistakes?

We’ll find out I guess.

Alabama has played a top 5 schedule and they've played the 150th schedule. It's really hard to compare stats.

They will try to rush the ball. The question then becomes it is the second half Alabama defense from the past couple games or the first half defense? I read that Alabama only allowed 20 yards on 7 carries in the second half against Vandy. That's a solid effort against a good running team.

The other question becomes will Alabama be able to keep the offense balanced?Against South Carolina, Missouri had the ball 11 minutes more (kind of expected when you rush 48 times).Ty struggled some when he was back there trying to do it all, so some balance in the offense should help both the offense and defense (by letting them rest).

I have watched zero of their games. Their defense can be had, this is what Sellers did to them in their house:

They run a lot, 109 rushes(9 TD) vs 39 targets(1 TD) for their top guys. They may gash us better than Vandy/UGA. I'm glad to have Keenan back and I think we hold up well.
Keenan and Tim Smith -- both are equally valuable.

Missouri has a great RB, so hopefully our coaches and players make adjustments to stop the run BEFORE halftime, not just after halftime. I think their QB is good too. I have not watched them play much but have read about their RB. I know their strength of schedule isn't great, but they are still a good team.

It concerns me some that it is an away game so early and Mizzou had a bye week.

How do we match up?
Mizzou played UMass and then had a week off to prepare for us....
Bama will be on the road and playing our third straight ranked team.
We had better have our "killer instinct" going ...and play mistake free.

.....The SEC always screws Bama with several opponents having byes before us.

ive watched a little of Mizzou (mostly Kansas game). I am not sure that they have been tested yet. It will be interesting to see JessN’s write up on position groups. I really like how we match up both ways on the LOS. The Mizzou secondary gave up about 230 to kansas and over 300 to gamecocks. I think we will be able to move the ball. I guess the real question is Can the Bama Defense slow Mizzou? I think we can grab a couple of possessions (they will score). But if Ty maintains his composure and puts us in scoring position, we will win this game by double digits.

Saw some talking heads saying that playing Vandy before Missouri was a good thing because Missouri runs an offense very similar to Vandy’s. Haven’t a clue how accurate that might be, but if it is, good.

Isn’t their run game more “traditional “ than Vandy’s? If so I would like our chances a little more. I think our D line is coming around and there could be less eye candy fo LBs and DBs to sift through.

Yesterday I watched a recording of the game. McElroy did a good job of explaining one difference on the shovel pass that is easy for the offense to execute, but hard for the defense to recognize and stop.

Diego Pavia is a world-class punk. Vandy runs its offense well.

I asked the question on another thread, but it strikes me that a perfectly executed shovel pass type of play is almost impossible to defend every time. It will have success. One must scheme the defense to expect that one type of play on every down, so obviously it opens the door for everything else an offense can throw at it.

Spurrier used to use that very well with Florida back in the 90s. It was infuriating.
