Looking To Saturday, How Do We Match Up With Missouri?

  • Hi Guest, we are working on updating the site servers and software. We're also 'forcing' everyone to read and agree to our site privacy policy and terms of service. There are no significant changes to either of these but the terms page does clarify a few things that are mostly in the legalese. You can just click the checkbox for both and continue using the site as usual! We'll update you more on the site upgrades VERY soon! THANK YOU AS ALWAYS for supporting the site and being an active participant!

If we play a good game, I think we beat them by 2 scores at least. They have an above average offense and ok defense. I'll give em that. Our defense is improving though. Ty is the best QB in the SEC. They haven't played anyone and haven't been tested. If we're able to run the ball close to what we did against Vandy, we'll win it going away. I think we win it 34-17 or so.

Hope it gets better for you.

I have a coworker that prefers the fall hikes. She cannot wrap her head around how I did it all summer.

She was 2 hours behind me last Saturday and missed all the excitement I had. I am thinking East Palisades Saturday and drive up to Ravens Cliff Sunday.
I’m a history nut, particularly revolutionary and civil war. My favorite thing is hikes at military parks, usually with a park guide or a historian buddy of mine. This year it was going to be Vicksburg. I’ve done Shiloh on numerous occasions, Chickamauga , Gettysburg, Kennsaw Mointain, Fort Donelson, Antietam among others. Most times these hikes are “off the beaten path” where most don’t go and anywhere from 6 to 14 miles in a day.

Won’t happen this fall. Was told I have a couple of herniations and stenosis at L4-5 and L5-S1. Luckily they can use a minimally invasive approach which should shorten recovery time.

Now back to our regularly scheduled “review of the matchup with Missouri”

I think Missouri is on par with Vandy. Very similar schedule so far with similar results. I don't think we will have an issue moving the ball between the 20s, but we have got to do a better job in the redzone than we have the last two games. I think that will be what makes or breaks us for this game.

The continued improvement of the running should/hopefully will solve this. When we get down at the 10 yard line and in, we've got to be able to run the ball.

I just KNEW that it went by another name!! I remembered Coach Bryant calling it something and I thought it was the Whoopie!
You are right. The QB would yell Whoopie! when he tossed the ball to tell lineman to block downfield. I believe it was the Utah pass prior to that even 1950s - 1960's football.

How are they on the defensive line? Do they have anyone that can take a game over? That’s my biggest concern with this game…while we have certainly seen improvements on the o line the last few weeks, I still remember those few games over the last couple of years where we let a defensive line just blow us up to the point the offense couldn’t move the ball at all. That’s my main concern.

The thing I worry about the most is they have possibly the best running back in CFB right now. I watched some footage from this year last night and he is extremely hard to tackle. His has elusiveness, speed and his second and third effort is unreal. He reminds me of a cross between Mark Ingram and McFadden from that arkansas team from many years ago that we could never seem to stop.

The one complaint I'd raise against Grubb thus far is I think he tries to force some runs in the red zone.

The dynamics of the run game change as you get close to the goal. Obviously the field shrinks for any play call, but there is no secret our strength is a QB and receivers that are playing at a high level.

There have been a few drives when we get around the 5-10 yard line with a fresh set of downs and we'll run on 1st and 2nd down with little to no success. Granted, I don't have a problem with 1 called run in that situation, but when we run it twice and get to 3rd down and 5-10 yards then a passing play is pretty obvious. So I wish Grubb would just be a little more aggressive with pass plays near the goal line.

The reason the run game is opening up is because our passing game is so lethal. The "play action" is really freezing opposing linebackers and dbs. Keep that up between the 20's but then don't hesitate to pass it more in the red zone!

I read something the other day that their DL is better than UGA's and they will have a better pass rush than UGA. Hope our O line can block for TY and that he gets the ball out quickly. Their secondary isn't that great, so it would be great to let Ty do his thing in the passing game. And, not take sacks!

Josh Pate said that...but he also said the DL's performance to date needs to "verify" against Bama. IOW, to date, its reputation is based on playing some pretty average teams so far.

Yeah I think Mizzou is probably good to really good but they have faced some terrible rush defenses.

USCe - 70th
Kansas - 90th
Umass - 123rd
Louisiana - 130th

Central Arkansas - …. 74th In FCS

So they faced 2 teams that are Bad against the run and 2 teams who are Horrifically Bad against the run and 1 team that’s Bad against the run a whole division lower.

That’s maybe encouraging.

What’s not encouraging is Bama is ranked 88th in Rush Defense.

In our 2 road games we avg allowing about 230 yards rushing (FSU and UGA)

We were much better vs. Vandy though and only allowed 130 yards so maybe we are improving since Vandy has a Top 25 Rushing Offense.
9 yds in the 2nd 1/2…0 in the 4th qtr.
Mr. Smith & Mr. Keenan (+++) will be waiting.
W/out the big plays we’re solid. (I know…can’t be kinda pregnant) but it is important because that’s a mental thing that can be fixed.

It's Thursday and my feelings towards this game hasn't changed. I think the lack of discussion is due to skewed data and I don't trust the data that Mizzou put up this season to this date. It's extremely hard for me to call Mizzou elite team because of the numbers they're putting out on the field. Even Mizzou HC said yesterday he doesn't know what kind of team he has and he'll find out this weekend.

Competition matters. Look at Vandys offensive averages coming into the game with us. They didn't get anywhere close to their averages. I see Mizzoo the same way until proven otherwise. If they run for 300 yards on us we've either taken a huge step back or Mizzoo is probably going to the SEC championship game.
