Looking To Saturday, How Do We Match Up With Missouri?

  • Hi Guest, we are working on updating the site servers and software. We're also 'forcing' everyone to read and agree to our site privacy policy and terms of service. There are no significant changes to either of these but the terms page does clarify a few things that are mostly in the legalese. You can just click the checkbox for both and continue using the site as usual! We'll update you more on the site upgrades VERY soon! THANK YOU AS ALWAYS for supporting the site and being an active participant!

It's Thursday and my feelings towards this game hasn't changed. I think the lack of discussion is due to skewed data and I don't trust the data that Mizzou put up this season to this date. It's extremely hard for me to call Mizzou elite team because of the numbers they're putting out on the field. Even Mizzou HC said yesterday he doesn't know what kind of team he has and he'll find out this weekend.
How did they get six straight home games to start the season? How does that happen?

I'm not sure, it's crazy. But, isn't this year's schedule the exact same as last years, just reversed so that all away games last year are now home games? That means they had a lot of away games last year to start the year.
I wish Bama could get easier teams a few times this year like some of the other teams are... would be nice to play Arkansas and/or Kentucky and get our backups (especially at QB) some more play time. I'm not sure Austin or Keelon will play again until Eastern Illinois.

1 - Not exactly w/SEC schedule ... we played SoCar in this slot last year and Mizzou the week after UT

2 - Teams don't "flip" their cupcakes; they're almost always at home

We've had two physical games in the last two weeks while they should be very rested. We have to travel while they are at home with their crowd behind them. It is an 11 AM start. We play UT next week. Many indicators would point to them having several advantages. We will have to play well to overcome them. Roll Tide!

I have been listening to some of the "talking heads" on the radio and they think Missouri is going to win this game.
Could happen.
My concern is if Mizzou runs the ball well, they keep thr Bama O off the field.
If Mizzou has to play catch up from behind, they are in trouble.

On the other hand, I'm not sure Mizzou has really been challenged yet. They may be very good, or they may be good, or they may be just better than Kansas.

Competition matters. Look at Vandys offensive averages coming into the game with us. They didn't get anywhere close to their averages. I see Mizzoo the same way until proven otherwise. If they run for 300 yards on us we've either taken a huge step back or Mizzoo is probably going to the SEC championship game.
Clint Lamb (who I usually don't love) has put it well IMO. It is POSSIBLE that Missouri looks good only because of their schedule. But it is also possible that they are just good and dominating a bad schedule like a good team should. Because of this it makes the most sense to assume they are just very good football team until proven otherwise instead of the opposite. Especially since they have had an extra week to prepare and homefield advantage.

The two decent teams they've played have put 20 points and 31 points on them respectively. Also, in each of those games, Kansas averaged 12 yards per reception and South Carolina averaged 16 yards per reception. Thats not a dominating defensive stat and one we can definitely take advantage of.

Since they have had an easy schedule to this point, we probably haven’t seen their full playbook this year. Given our problems with eye discipline on misdirections, we will probably see some variations involving that. That said, watch8ng some of the video of the Vandy game, #10 is NOT messing around. He is playing about as fast as you can play in this defense, which means the light has come on and he understands the concepts asked of him. Either through film Study or understanding the defense, and offense. He is playing well the last few games.
I keep hearing talking heads say Mizzou will run Hardy , control the clock, and shorten the games and keep Alabama’s passsing attack off the field. When I hear that, I know they haven’t watched the games this year. I bet Alabama has more 14+ play drives than anyone in the country. Probabaly close to the top in TOP as well.

edit, I am wrong on TOP, Bama is 15th, Mizzou is #1 . Who knew?

All true, but haven't we been down this path with Missouri before?

They were 6-1 and ranked last year. 34-0

The way folks are analyzing the game, it seems a similar challenge as Vandy. We will face a strong running game and pretty good qb. To win we’ll need a few stops, and win turnover battle?
This season, we are on a mission to protect the ball. With declining numbers of penalties, especially on that O-Line, we are playing as perfectly as this group can, minus the dropped passes. I'll take that team that executes well and doesn't beat itself any day!

Definitely. We should be able to move the ball on them through the air as long as we continue to protect Ty.

Sure. But they had a lot of injury issues

As ive watched a lot of analysis by a lot of people on this game, one thing keeps coming up. "If Mizzoo's defense doesn't pressure Simpson Alabama will carve them up. Mizzoo's secondary isn't good at all".

Apparently both Kansas and USCe WR's torched them when they couldn't pressure the QB.
Yeah this is definitely true. We have a top 5 WR group in the country and no QB is playing better than Ty. And it is a weakness for Missouri. As long as we protect him our offense should put up points
