Truth be told, Smart will always be viewed as 'working for Saban' as long as he's here - could be that he realizes he needs to prove he's as good without Saban as with.

If he leaves for another coordinator job, he needs to go where the program is on the upswing, perhaps with a more recently hired head coach. Miles seems to be running out of gas in the bayou.

I doubt anything comes out of this. IF it's true and materalizes into something, we'll know before Wednesday. I would imgaine they would want a DC Coach to be in place by dead period... I think it's a sign that LSU can't get anyone eto take the job at LSU.. and its a sign that Les Miles may have worn out his welcome mat...

Mark Richt's contract is up in 2017. Kirby is going to hang on until then

I think that Les' problems stem more from the number of juniors that have left and the lack of qb development than anything else. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see them rebound next year.

What defense? All I saw was 11 guys on the field with the other team had the football. Regardless, Tucker isn't getting a third year, not with a new HC coming in.

A lateral move that makes little sense career wise for him. But I thought the same of Chavis' move to aTm.

Chavis is in his mid to late 50's with no aspirations to be a HC. That said, at his age with no need to pad his resume, he got a huge raise and financial security is probably his reason for moving to TAMU.

Honestly, I think the ship has sailed on Jeremy Pruitt. He kinda bounced around jobs.. and thats a red flag... I just don't know if he is willing to come to Alabama..... especially when He wants to be a HC.

Yep, any DC going to LSU knows that there is a lot of pressure that comes with that job there currently. In big games against good competition, LSU doesn't score enough and its paramount that LSU's defense keeps them in these games.

The only way I see Kirby going to LSU is if he was encouraged to do so. I've seen nothing to indicate Coach isn't happy with him.

Maybe Kirby got on tidefans and was made aware of how he is suddenly became completely inept at coaching pass defense and decided it was time to step down!arty:

LSU would not give Chavis a substantial raise to keep him. I doubt they would be able to get Kirby. Kirby will be getting a raise at Bama....considering what Muschamp is getting.

I wonder why Kirby would be getting a raise? The guy is already making a mint and Alabama's defense over the last two years has gotten the label that it cannot stop the pass. I think what he's making should be sufficient. We were 59th in the nation against the pass. I mean there were games where we were torched.

I'm not saying Smart should leave and I'd help him pack his bags...but maybe he has ran his course at Alabama and needs to go build something from scratch. We've seen how Urban Meyer looks like a completely different coach than the dead man walking in 2010. Sometimes a change of scenery isn't a bad thing...especially when you're a young guy.

I have no doubt at all that we wouldn't miss a step and hire a great replacement. Whatever is best for Smart, really. He's done great work for us...but I wouldn't despair because I think a fresh take may work out positively for both Alabama and Smart. If he stays, great...keep some continuity and I do believe he can repair the secondary over the long haul.

As a Bears fan, let me say that I hope they get Tucker. If they are going after a defensive style similar to the Bears this year, I'm for it. As far Smart, if he wants it, I hope he gets it. That is his mistake. It is a penthouse to the outhouse move. A lateral transfer to a division foe does not set well with me.
